Short Barreled AR-15

If an AR-15 has a short barrel, circa 10-12 inches, should the gas port be throttled way back to avoid the gas pressure slamming back the bolt carrier too hard?

On my 7.5 inch pistol I found not necessarily to hard, but unlocking the bolt too soon. Some cases had rims about ripped off and some primers were blown out. Installing and tuning an adjustable gas block fixed it.
I don't use 'pistol length gas' on ANY of my AR pistols. Not even the 300AAC although at least one of those requires a light weight BCG.
I use 5.56/223, 300 AAC, 7.62x39, and 6.8 SPC 10.5-11.5" barrels. It is (or should be) necessary to adjust gas port diameter when using 'pistol' gas port location.
Heavier spring or buffer (or both), adjustable gas block and maybe a pig tail gas tube? Or all the above?
probably get by with one or two of these mods, I would do all 4 and then count on the adj, gas block to fine tune
The absolute, sure fire 'fix' is an Adams Arms piston kit.
I don't have any real issues with the DI system but in some cases, the piston op is an improvement.
