What Is/Was Your “Go-To” Kids Punishment Method?

For you parents/grand-parents, what has been your go-to punishment for disobedient kids (other than spanking)?
I’ve been blessed with great, respectful girls, who mostly behave and do what they are supposed to. Like all of us, however, they do mess up on occasion. I’ve tried a number of things, but my “go-to” seems to have become Burpees.
Examples:
Leave the lights on: 10 Burpees
Back-talk: 30 Burpees
Arguing with Sister: 25 Burpees Each
Failing to complete tasking: 40 Burpees
Lying: 100+ Burpees (depending on context)
Seems to have been very effective. And these girls are getting STRONG!!!!

The woodpile.
When me and my brother acted up, we got to re-arrange the woodpile.
"You boys need to go out and move that woodpile."
"Why?"
"You know why."
"But move it where?"
"Doesn't matter. But you better do it right the first time or you'll have to do it again. Now get going."
As for me and my daughter, I never had to punish her. Not once. She simply never acted up and never had a rude word to say and never got sassy or hateful. Weird kid, I know. 😁

Punish kids? How dare you? It will soon be a jailable offense.
I got my butt lit up plenty when I was a kid. Look how I turned out. Scared for life.😁
Anyone else remember the sound of the belt as the tip slapped against each belt loop ????
I knew I had pushed it too far when I heard that sound !
Haha! Yep, I remember that one well. Seems I heard it, at minimum, every Sunday as soon as we got home from church. Brother and I just couldn't seem to keep it together during that service. The car ride home was always a quiet one….hoping that Dad would forget all those threats he whispered in our ears.
My wife had it worse growing up, though (although I expect she earned it). Her Daddy was the pastor…..and more than once, he just stopped preaching, got down from the pulpit, hauled her butt out back, laid a good whooping on her, and calmly returned to finish the sermon. 😁
I have seriously considered ordering a dump truck load of gravel just for that purpose.
Nothing like what I received as a kid
Leather bets switches just short of being a club any thing handy was used on me
Yes I spanked sparenling usually just no tv or go to to bed for my sons, punishment but they never got the whipping . Me and the neighbors kids got
I was never a great father in some ways and could have been better
but i never beat them or said I will give you something to cry about
I have no issues with some one smacking the butt of a misbehaving kid just to get ther attention and let them mknow it was wrong
⁸but not the leave welts and bruses I got
Against me, a lot like DR above, anything he could grab. The ol man would put so much energy into giving me a beating, he'd get so worked up. He'd use his belt, fist, 2x4, rubber hose for air compressor, anything.
He had a jig saw and would cut out wooden paddles and break them in half on me. He made one and drilled holes in to let air go through as he swings it. He was so proud of his weapon. On like the third hit on me with it, the thing broke in half. There I am with welts on me, tears running down my face, and laughing so hard at him. He went crazy mad and beat me as I kept laughing.
Against our kids, very rare ever needed. Wife used or threatened to use a wooden spoon on thier butt. I'd give out a open hand spanking on the butt.
I married into my two kids when they were 9, girl and 11, boy. They were so glad to have a Dad, which they never had, that they never misbehaved. I moved them out of the big city, Sacramento, Ca. onto acreage in NorCal high atop Wolverton Mountain in the shadow of Mt. Lassen where they had plenty of room to roam with my four dogs and one horse. Ma and me are great grand parents now with a lotta great memories to look back on.
When I was a kid and got out of line my dad would punish us by using the belt. Dad would tell us kids to go to are bed room and hold onto the bed post. After 15 or 20 minutes dad would come in and ask us how many licks we thought we deserved, I would usually say 1, dad would would say 2 or 3, The worse part was waiting for dad to come to the bed room. When I got older and out on my own I asked dad why we had us kids wait so long holding onto the bed post, dad told me. It was to give us kids a chance to think about what we did and gave him a chance to cool off so he didn’t whip us out of anger. After 30 minutes or so, dad would always come back in the bed room and hug us kids and tell us that he loved us and some day we would understand how it hurt him as well as it hurt us, I understand now. Dad always had away of explaining things that made sense.
Mine had to clean the house a good bit….dusting…..windows…..floors…..it was a top to bottom deep clean and depending on what level of trouble you were in the room they had to do was chosen. If you really messed up BOTH bathrooms were going to be spotless…..not because it was the worst, they just hated the idea of doing that particular job. I looked forward to a clean living room from time to time.
With my own kids, they got a little pop on the butt with an open hand when they were old enough to understand they had done something wrong….It was followed by a short thinking time sitting on their bed. Then a talk and affirmation they were loved and all was forgiven….
By the time they were 6 or so, it was easy to get their attention by the loss of privileges and yard work. I got off pretty easy overall with our sons.
I think they turned out better than I did……
For my kids, Chapter and Verse got to your room for an hour and come and report. Bible is good reading.
They caught on and started to like the Book. \And we progressed to something else
Mom used the Broom, dad made me cut my switch from the bush out front. The sitter Leona was partial to mouth washing with soap, (cant satnd Ivory soap)
I thankfully never had to spank my daughter……..she was/is a great kid…….rarely needed any discipline. Better than me.
When my sons were arguing or fighting I threatened to make them hug and sing Home on the range. That worked every time so they never had to hug and sing.
We would remove play privileges from our son - banning him from his favorite toy or toys.
Kind of like my folks did when I misbehaved. They would sew the front pockets back into my trousers.

Sounds like a lot of us had similar experiences growing up, and have found better ways of training our youngsters.
In addition to the belt by Dad, my Mom’s go-to was the heavy, ribbed plexi-glass rod that opened/closed old metal window blinds. Very similar to a fiberglass garden/fencing stake. That thing would leave bloody welts all over my legs. Terrible. Different time, I guess, but I can’t imagine ever doing something like that to my kids.
As very new parents......my wife and I decided that we would NOT discipline our children as we were, many years earlier. However, open handed spanking was used when necessary.......but only to overcome a defiant ego.....and not to inflict bruised/bloody injury. We also felt that if a child had not learned right from wrong by age 4 or 5........the parents had "lost" the disciplinary battle. Still do.
As for me.......my mother used a 1" wide razor strop extensively...…usually aided by alcohol. In the mid-80's..…at the beginning of a very long estrangement.....I told her to NEVER call our house while/after drinking….…and that if I ever found that razor strop, I'd cut it into small pieces and burn it, in her presence. I also noted to her that what she did, 20-30 years earlier, would/should have landed her in jail.
I'm talked out.....…...but feel a bit cleansed.......
Anything from a stern look to loss of privileges to a full on spanking. All dependent on the reason and seriousness of the problem. By the time my kids were old enough to understand their actions, they'd already learned that Dad could be a bear.
I have a DIL who doesn't believe in spanking. She now has a 19 year old Son who is nearly out of control—snapping back at his Dad(and me), failing to follow instructions and then shrugging off the problems, and generally exhibiting ZERO respect. A good striping with a cane pole would either give him a different attitude or send him down the road to be someone else's problem and at this point I don't really care which.😕
As a kid dad didnt do much unless it was really bad. then you were grounded for long time. Mom was kinda crazy what ever she got her hands on wooden spoons were not too bad. But the mental spoon with the holes it hurt. As we got older she just swung an hit any part of you. If you blocked it you get it double. With my son it was once or twice smack him. Most times just took stuff off of him.
