What is your opinion of this new flat shooting round by Weatherby?

    I'd be interested. I've shot a 277 x 30-06 for 50 years.

I haven't ruled out getting one yet. It would be in the Vanguard line.

For years the weatherby 257 has held the title of the flattest shooting round but now weatherby has out did itself and developed the 6.5 x300 which is in a class by itself. I have both calibers, the 257 and the 6.5x300 and I can say it is amazing the difference. I know gun topics don’t always do good on a gun forum but I was just curious as to how many other people are having the same experience as I am with this new round.

Knowing what I know now, My favorite long range, low recoil rifles are 6.5 magnum's and have been for several years and I like all calibers and use several different calibers. I use 120-140 gr premium bullets and sometimes use Nosler solids.

When I want to get er dun at long range that is what I carry. (6.5 Magnum) I own a old model with a factory stainless BLUED 26 inch barrel and a New FW Stainless claw extractor Winchester 70. The Win 70 264 is one of the most accurate guns straight out of the box that I've ever seen. I reload but it also likes most factory ammo.

They do require really good hunting bullets such as Nosler partitions or Speer Grand slams.

Lesser bullets will fragment or explode at close range at HV's.

Just use common sense and do not overheat the barrels. They are not ground hog calibers.

Weatherby probably should have named it 6.5 CREEDMORE MAGNUM. Got to have a catchy name on the rifle caliber now days.

I've been thinking about stamping my barrels as 6.5 CREEDMORE magnum.

How does it compare to the 6.5 x 68 ?

I shall stick with my 7MM STW.

I'll stick to the .30-40 Bofors. Yeah, that's a 40mm Bofors necked down to .30-cal.

It'll hit the moon, but it's only good for one shot per barrel.

(Joking, of course. But a friend of mine DID produce one round of it, just for giggles.)

    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I shoot 6.5, old school x 55 and newer 6.5 Grendel (handgun). No big stuff any longer. Sounds like an interesting cartridge, if I were 20 years younger. I mostly shot 7mm Rem mag hunting and .375 for the zoo.
