Inflation Finally Pays Off
5 years ago I found this Smith&Wesson model 57 with and 8 3/8 inch barrel that was rated at 99%. At the time I really didn’t want to spend that much on it. Well it has sat in the the back room of one of the warehouse floors all this time. I figure the dollar has lost around 22% of it’s value over the the last 4 years but the price of the Smith stayed the same, so I bought it last week figuring I got a 20% discount on it, or at least that’s the excuse I used to justify buying it.
I can group 6 rounds at an inch and three quarters at 25 yards with open sights. I plan on using it this year to try and take a deer with it. I have a Ruger Bisley with a 5 1/2 inch barrel I had planned on using, but was only able to group at around 4 inch at best with open sights.
I don’t think I will have to make up any new rounds as the ones I had made up for the Ruger seem to work good, and I’m sure with the almost 3 inches of more barrel the velocity will be higher, I’ll have to check it.
Now if I could just find some 5 year old gasoline that was still good and at the price it was 5 years ago. Lol

Nice score, Congrats.
Score! I've wanted a Model 57 for years. Let us know how it shoots.
I accumulated about 40 Browning A-5 shotguns through the years. Most were VG to NIB. I started selling them off a while back. That was probably the best return on anything I ever invested in.
What Jim said.
This is after I got it sighted in. The rounds are 1225 fps with a 210gr. hornady XTP bullet and 12.6 gr. Blue Dot. I’m sure with the 8 3/8 barrel the velocity has increased. I’m quite satisfied considering I’m using open sights. I will keep all shots at no farther than 30 yards with open sights when hunting.
Nice score! Love my .41 Blackhawk. Wife shot it once and said "no more"!
Nice… Good shooting…
