IAC Valve is on it's way

So it seems idle control valve has landed in San Jose from Arizona so I should have it later today. I also found a throttle body coolant gasket while looking for the throttle body upper gasket so that was good. I'm going to take the throttle body apart for a good cleaning. Now that I don't have to worry about destroying that gasket. Oh that reminds me I need to pick up the throttle body to manifold gasket I ordered at O'Reilly when I was looking for thermal paste.
I wonder how the IAC valve fared? Will the spring move or will it be in pieces? One of the bits I never checked or replaced in my Caprice 22 years of owning her. I think I'll also check on the PCV valve and douse it with Brake Cleen. I did swap that out 10/15 years back? Need to check on the near by hoses, too. I wonder if the EGR is okay? That one I don't wanna dig in to being that it's near the fire wall and back of the engine. Also the hose and the plastic tube might be "Italian". You know Fragi Le. But I'll check the hose to eliminate the vacuum leak.

You got an IAC code or are you just replacing stuff?
I mean after 22 years in my possession things gotta be going out, right? Also the mechanic said she's smelling rich. The vacuum leak to the throttle body did fix most of that but there is a hint of unburnt fuel. Also since I'm going to do a through cleaning of the throttle body and I'd hate to have to scramble to find a IAC if it is stuck.
So I took the throttle body off and the gasket came off in one piece (saved $6.00) yay. IAC looked clean-ish but the spring had a odd burr/shaving and I couldn't push down so I swapped it out. Now tonight as I was parking I noticed the idle was acting oddly. It surged? Stepped on the gas and it went away. After I did the job (Friday) I took her for a spirited run everything seemed fine but tonight.
Man the thing took a while to clean all that black mess in the throttle body especially the IAC chamber. Used old sock pieces wrapped in popsicle stick and tooth brush.
While doing the job the EVAP Purge Valve showed up so that got swapped out, too. I learned I don't have a crappy small flat head screw driver with a magnet end. I know I had them but where they went, I know not. I wonder if I put the hoses in the wrong order?
austin20 - No camera or cell phone (government tracker) so pic of the 9C1 (Caprice). The Impalas wish they were 9C1s. Just look up Light Driftwood Metallic with a Setina push bars with yellow Hella 500 fog lights and you'll get the general idea.

Carbon builds up in a lot of such places in many cars and can cause a lot of problems has for years
One of our cars is a 2002 accord. i have the intake off of it right now. The EGG passages and valve are plugged it's a well know notorious pronlem on them to completely plug up with carbonas as ours did

Ditch-Runner - I thought about taking off the intake manifold but I have to take off the fuel rail and injectors which is a wee bit much more than what I wanna go in to. Got me a can of Sea Foam with the bendy straw to do the "job".
austin20 - Pretty much. I think that's a '92 or older. Mine has the easy access to the rear tire and tan. Also the department had all the ids removed (no Caprice).
Since I could not find a local or even a few towns over MotorVac i gave Sea Foam a try. Since I saw that that the inside of the intake manifold is black as my soul (if I had one) and I did not want to take it off for the cleaning. That right there is a big task where fuel rail and injectors needs to be removed. So I went the Sea Foam route.
First the red straw did not want to insert in to the spray tip. Then it would pop out so eventually I had to use two hands to do this task. Also holding the nozzle down took effort and a while. I think it went well since the engine didn't lock up. Didn't notice much difference after the Sea Foam. After the IAC, EVAP Valve swap out and the throttle body cleaning did most of the smoothing out?
I'll take her down to smog later this week.
