SKS Accessories

I just picked up an SKS Paratrooper. SKS is new to me, I'm supposing it's a Type 56. Carries a rail on the receiver for a scope mount. I grabbed a few "duckbill" mags but for the most part will use the fixed 10 rounder.

Couple of questions -

I'd like to have a side rail scope ability, really haven't found anything on line. And is there a "best site" for buying on line? I'm a tad under 6'5" and best LOP for me is about 18" - doing the old "crook of arm to trigger" method puts my finger at the mag release, so a recoil pad would help.

I know this may be putting lipstick on a pig, but with the bayonet gone does anyone sell anything to fill in the slot? I can do something on my own, wondering if there's something out there

That is not the correct side mount for a scope. Looks like someone has put the on there themselves. As that looks like it will take a groved set of rings. Or a flashlite mount.

They do make a rubber butt plate extension, about 5/8 in. thick. It screws right on top of the butt plate. It does make a big difference. They used to be common at the gun shows when the SKS was popular. Not so much now.

    Thanks all.

FWIW, I picked it up at a gun show this weekend. There were a few there with the same side mount. I'm supposing the import company that converted from full to shorter barrel did the work. Accumounts looks to have a mount that works, but spending $199.00 on a gun I got for $375.00 doesn't make much sense to me.

That side mount is a conversion done before they entered the USA. Seen many just like that.

As above you can finds pads some will add an extra inch to the length. Great fun shooter firearms -

Gun collecting is our hobby and doesn't have to make sense, spending-wise or otherwise…..

Yeah I get your spending $375 for a rifle that sold half that not too long ago is crazy. Since it's already drilled and tapped, you can find a of brass plate to engrave your name? Now me I'd make something like a Side Saddle to hold a few rounds handy.

You should carefully test fire your SKS; while the trigger group looks like it should be easy to lighten the trigger pull, that would be a mistake unless you are an expert. Few things are as scary as a gun that goes "full auto" without advance notice.

I found a butt pad on line, has the trap door built in. I ordered the Wolff spring and will leave it at that. Not sure what to do re the side mount. Will leave it alone for a while, see if the Norinco type shows up.

Norinco mount, Navy Arms sold a bunch with a different scope, but the mount is for a Chinese type 89 scope, 2.75x18. Called the Cowboy Companion. No other scope mount fits that rail.

Either D&T the top cover or find a replacement that's already D&T for a scope base.

FWIW, I had an SKS 'trigger job' done by an amateur gun butcher and yes, now and then it 'doubles' but so far has stopped after 2 shots.🙄
