just finished up the turnip bed.........
snow and cold weather last week or so has pretty much done them in. Most only got about golf ball size, a few bigger. I planted the hybrid white turnips, white queens, they are sweeter than the purple tops and don't get hot and pithy when they do get big. anyway most of them were frozen had to pry/dig them out of the dirt.
Got them inside and dudley was begging to see what was in the bowl, dudley is our terrier, he looks just like Austin's dog, could pass as a twin, if any of you all remember seeing pictures of him. anyway gave him one of the small frozen one and he is knawling away like it was his favorite bone, gave him 3 but had to quit as I don't know if they will give him gas or make him throw up, but he did love them. gonna save the rest for breakfast, once they thaw chop them up and fry them like potatoes……..

Loved turnips as a kid. We would dig them up and it was all my mom could do to keep me from eating them before we got all the dirt off. Same thing with fresh tomatoes.
Like turnips.
I've not heard of 'fried' turnips. Some folks used to boil and mash them liked mashed taters but I wasn't too fond of that approach.
Years back when turnips were just coming to light as a deer attractant, we were chopping silage on a farm owned by nonresident hunter type guy who had scattered turnip seed at the end of the field. One of the other 'wagon draggers' would disappear into the field while waiting to catch his next load and reappear with a couple of turnips. He'd wipe off most of the dirt and eat them like an apple. I just wasn't that hungry for a raw turnip.🙃
Well I hope you didn't fall off the truck .
Congrats On your turnips
I just never acquired a taste for them .
Boiled turnips, chicken necks, ketchup sandwiches, squirrels and rabbits were our staples until Pop got on with Halls Motor Freight in 1949 back in Pa. He drove 27 years for them.
I would rather have turnips than potatoes, either raw or fried…….. I like to slice them thin and sprinkle with salt and just snack on them while watching TV…
