I was going to be a Seabee electrician about the same time. Then I spoke with some one who had known one. They told me all of the Seabee electricians were being sent to Vietnam and they made good targets for VC snipers when the were up on poles doing repairs.
I decided to go the ship route and became an EM on a destroyer.
My rating was CEP-3, as in Construction electrician power. I did 8 months in Chu Lai in '65 and 9 more in Da Nang, '66 - '67. I spent 7 days on an LSD, (Gunston Hall) getting to Chu Lai You can keep yer ocean cruises!!!!
