Help, What do i have here, customer brought into shop. serial number 32759 Thanks
Comments
I'm out on a limb here, but it's an 1861 Model Navy, and it's within the original serial number range of #1 to # 38,843. It has all the earmarks of an early colt, color case hardened frame, silver plated grip straps, the rolled cylinder scene of Texas Navy and Mexico battle scene, manufactured from 1861 to 1873. If it's in 80% condition, the value would be around $ 10,000. But what troubles me is it looks like it's in new condition, with no age to it, for a 150 year old gun. It could be an Italian replica, a better expert needs to weigh in.
Thanks for your help. Dave
Its not case colored , someone chromed it so thats one reason why i dont know what is
I take that back , the backstrap and trigger guard are chromed
Check carefully for Italian proof marks, especially on the bottom of the barrel. Very suspicious of the brilliant bluing, possible but highly unusual. Also there is no wear on the wood grip finish. Yes, need an expert to see the cylinder markings.
I totally forgot about the Colt reproductions. I think that nails it. They were Uberti parts assembled in the U.S. That way Colt could put their name on them.
I’m pretty sure it’s an 1861 Navy, part of the Colt reproduction series. The barrel wedge has been put in on the wrong side.
The Colt reproduction series I believe were made by Uberti for Colt, that is why the name Colt appears on the gun.
It should be a silver plate not chrome on the back strap. Looks like the gun has been used pretty hard, maybe in civil war re-enactments.
Looks like a Colt signature series;

Might be nickel plated instead of chrome. Bob
Far too many markings on the cylinder to be original Colt or even a good copy.
