Hunters go from one station to another, the birds are released from 30 foot towers. They fly in all directions, the hunters are stationed 30 yds from the towers. Just as many birds got away as those harvested.

Oh my. Any doubles from 1 shot ?
lots of doubles, but not from one shot.
Judy and I participated in a couple of tower hunts years ago. Most of these, at least around here, are company sponsored shoots for clients and their best employees. Fortunately, one of our shooting buddies owned one of those companies and we would get invited. You might be right about half getting away, but we did a regular walking hunt after the tower and managed to get quite a few of the escapees. There was usually one or two birds with red ribbons on their leg. If you got one of those it was good for a prize like cash, booze, Cabelas or Bass Pro gift cards. I kept my eyes open to see where those ribbon birds went if they escaped but never managed to flush one up walking the fields. Bob
I guess that is “ new age” hunting. Do to land being rented out now to highest bidders, the old walk the field has come and gone. I would not do that for whatever reason and I can see how it has evolved into that. The “ old days” of field hunts with double barrels is mostly and imo sadly gone.
Some years ago we had a group of guys go to a game farm, pheasant and chuckars and we paid for 20 birds ($15 a bird) to be put out in the field, probably got half of that. We had a couple of bird dogs with us, and it was a fun shoot. I told my brother in law and he said I would never do that……go to a game farm. You can't go up to farmer and ask to hunt his land, they won't let you and if they do know you, smokers aren't allowed to hunt, one fire will go all the way down to the Iowa border, being in southern Minnesota.
Kind of a "canned hunt"?
