I'll take one if your buying, otherwise I will pass……………
looking for a straight-walled cartridge for deer and hog hunting
what do you ins think?
anyone have one? or experience with one?
450 Bushnaster? Just how big are your deer?
not that big
but sometimes the hogs are
The straight wall cartridge has taken over deer hunting in Illinois. 350 then comes 450 then 400 and 45-70 From talking with some who used the 450 they were very impressed with the round.
360 Buckhammer is also getting some attention-
that is what is happening in Arkansas too
under 150 yards would be a pile driver Any 45 I ever shot is more arc than u can believe , 4 inches at 200 yards eliminates “ dead hold” : (
I would make sure you are strapped in the stand ,
of the straight walls I like the 444 Marlin miss that levergun the most when I sold my Marlin collection.
thanks everyone
With the size of those hogs where I hunt we avoid anything but a head shot with the 350 legend it will kill them but we'we've had to track them for a pretty good distance.
Since you're going for the .450 Bushmaster, I'd recommend the Ruger American. And get the 22" barrel; a bit more velocity and the longer barrel just looks and feels more like it should. There are several on the auction side. I have one and it's a good shooter. The .450 that gets the most use here is a Ruger 77, wood stock. It's a pretty thing and it has accounted for quite a few bucks. But they are pricey now and I think they're only available from one seller in Bad Axe, MI: He is on the auction side, too.
Another vote for the Ruger American in 450 B.M.
The wife and I both use them and they are deadly accurate. Average deer travel after the shot is thirty yards. Fifty percent are DRT.
One con, is that they are very loud due to the muzzle brake, but it's removable. I just wear my ear buds and that eliminates the issue.
thanks
