I need about .010" worth of steel barrel shims for an installation.

    Haven't seen those for years.

Got a friendly auto machine shop near??
Valve spring shims come in dozens of shapes and sizes.

Or just centerpunch around the mating surface of the barrel to raise it and recut as needed.

    ID & OD measurements?

I have barrel shims... all are made for Remington 700, 1.062" ID by approx. 1.200" OD.

Barrel OD is 1.175 and receiver ring is 1.200.
Thread is at 1.032 and not undercut giving me .071 if I want to hide the shims or .084 if I bring the shim out to receiver ring diameter.
    What do you think?
I have to make up about .015-.018 plus crush.
Surprisingly the Rem shims are that close.

I am surprised that no one has asked why you need to shim the barrel.
It was not a standard practice at the armory. I have never removed an original barrel that was shimmed. The need to shim would indicate to me that there is something else wrong.

Some good reading here. The part about the National match receivers surprised me.

the only springfields I have seen with barrel shims were the ones built by francis bannerman , that should tell you all you need to know about using shims

I received the shims and will give it a try.
Bannermans did have some good stuff.
As a kid they let me handle two Marlin Baby carbines in 38-40 & 44-40
which I dreamt about for years.
As an adult I combed through their unused US Govt Sharps parts in Blue Point, LI and completed an 1863.
Still have a CW timed BP shell fuze that stuck to my fingers during WW2.
