...Lots of big channel cat at the ranch lake, fish for them and leave the bass alone sometimes, just to "slow" down and rest!
...Bout all that I use are chicken livers, yeccck, and BIG real worms. Heard of a lot of good home made catfish baits. Anybody make their own?.

I do alot of catfishing on the Mississippi river and this is my recipe that seems to work very well. Take a pack of the cheap red hotdogs ( the ones with the skin), cut into bite sized pieces, soak with one bottle of liquid crab boil, and vegetable oil, and garlic salt. Works really well and doesnt smell bad either. Hook bait through the skin of the hot dog and it will stay on the hook longer. Good Luck.

...ndg, thanks, sounds easy, and like it probably wks!
...I REALLY like the "no stink" part, man, some of that bait would knock a buzzard off a gut wagon....[xx(]

Yeah the wife really likes the no stink part too. She will even help bait up now.

...as you said, should stay on the hook real well, liver gets nasty after a little while, and hard to bait a hook with it period. Thanks again...[;)]

This is what I do here on the lower Boise River.

In early spring, the suckers will bite on nightcrawlers.(Later in the summer they won't)

I catch the suckers, fillet them and cut them into 1" chunks with the skin on.

Toss the chunks into a plastic container, then gut the fish, add the guts to the chunks, and set the container in the fridge for at least a week.

    It's called "sucker stew".

Hook through the skin, and I'm catching catfish![8D][:D]

I think cut bait is best for catfish.

With some of the soft baits you can use a small piece of nylon stocking. I have done this on several outings and it works great.
