reel help ---

This is always successful on the other forums, so I need help with taking a reel apart for cleaning and lubing.
Can anyone tell me how to get this thing apart? After taking the right side off, the spool should just lift out, right? Well, it doesn't. The left side is making a noise and is very tight, so tight you cannot cast it at all. It is a Bass Pro Shop model PQ2000 XPS, extreme performance series, six bearing system 5.2:1. There are no screws in the left side. Tried to get more pictures, but the battery just went dead in my camera-- on charge now. Anybody have suggestions? I would take it to bass pro shop but they are on the other side of Orlando, about 50 miles. Will have to take it next time I'm up that way.

underneath that cap in the middle of the handle there will either be a screw or nut, this will get the handle off. You can get the cap off with a tiny screw driver and prying it up, there will probably be little clip thingys holding it place. You can then take the reel apart.

The left side is probably not causing the problems. Before you take it apart i would try and take the gear cover off, thats what I call it, the gold cap thing, take the piece of plastic out of it and dump some hoppes gun oil down in there and then run it around some first before you take it apart.

...I think what shoff said will get it apart. The nut protector([:D]) is whats in center of your handle...keeps nut from loosening and then handle would fall off, SuPrise! Screw should come out, it comes off. Take off your star drag knob. Under it you should find a nut, almost can't help myself here guys[:D],under nut might, be spring clip(s).Remove nut, clip(s) if any. Take off the 2-3 "thumb" nuts. Take the cap off the "anti-backlash" knurled knob, probably a nut w/springs here, remove 'em. SHOULD be able to pull spool and all out. I'd use some Teflon/silicone type grease on the gears after cleaned, gun oil on the bearings and same grease on level wind track, thinned w/a little of the oil. Good luck, I send mine off now, for problems, only clean/lube mine.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys, but I have had the right side off. I have taken it apart and cleaned and lubed it. Right side (handle side) seems to be OK. now. I can't get it apart any further. Spool will not come out with all of the right side removed. Spool will not even move. The left side is dragging and making a noise but I cannot figure out how to get it apart. The plate on the left side is solid with no screws. I know there is a bearing on that side of the spool and it probably needs just a good cleaning and lube job. Just can't get it apart !!

    Thanks---Peabo

Do you have a release for the side some where on the reel? I have a reel that has a little spring loaded slide where you can slide it and remove the side, never used it though.

There is a small round hole about the size of a paper clip on the left side and I have tried probing in the hole for some kind of release for that side without any luck. I did spray some WD-40 in the hole hoping to lube the bearing, but it hasn't helped any. BTW, this reel was given to me by a fellow fisherman so I have no idea what it has been through, just thought I may be able to get it going again.
Got my camera charged back up so will try some more pictures.
