HOOK REMOVAL....form yourself, not fish...

...Thought there may/must be several ways to remove a hook that you have stuck in your a**, fortunately, I have only had this happen 2 times. Hooked myself a lot but really bad, only twice, each time by a someone else.

...As I think kids need to get into guns, fishing, hunting and camping, I took a friends 13 year old, fishing one time, noticed I said.."one time". He had been bass fishing hard for probably 3 years already, his dad and I fished touneys together and belonged to the same bass club.

...He was dieing to run the trolling motor so I let him.
That puts me BEHIND him, mistake. He trolled over by the bank and we were working the bank under some over hanging tree limbs.
I swung around in my seat to hit a big stump that was sticking up about a foot out of the water.

...He was very aware of the limbs, wish he had been as aware of me.
As I was about to cast, BAM, something all jingley and hard hit me behind an in my ear...??? Pretty quick I relized he had pulled back low to miss the limbs, and when he pulled back, knocked my hat off, slapped me up side the head w/a topwater w/a couple of trebles on it, not too bad. This was the "good" part, I learned in about 2 seconds.

...This all happened in probably 3-4 seconds. As he went to CAST, he couldn't cause it was stuck in my HEAD! [:D] funny now.
Before I could say anything, he started YANKING on his rod burying up the hooks in my ear and head,...thought he had "snagged" his lure in the tree!

...After yelling at him to stop jerking the *^$()(*( rod, he noticed my head was what he had snagged, not the tree. Cut the line, went back to the ramp, with a lure stuck on the side of my head and 3' of line hanging off the lure trailing behind me as we scooted to the ramp.

...Nobody around the ramp, weekday, Jay had let him skip school to go fishing. Think I was glad nobody was around to see me wearing this lure. Looking in my truck side mirror and pulling this way and that on the lure, I knew it was STUCK good/bad. Got my Leatherman out, no good for two of the hooks way too deep, got out two.

Only two stuck now were two, one behind my ear and one over my ear in my head. Thought for a moment, short moment, took the needle nose tips, grabbed each hook one at a time, and twisted and pulled them on out thru perfectly good skin so the barbs were sticking out.
Gave him the Leatherman and told him to cut hooks close to the barbs, he wouldn't do it! "It will hurt", he said, "WTH do you think it's doin now"??? I asked, still wouldn't do it. About that time a guy drove up to launch his boat, God I hated to go over to him with this lure hanging off my head like an old hood ornement.

...I guess with the blood, not all that much for all the twisting I'd done, he didn't laugh when I went up to him. I ask him to cut the hooks just below the barbs where I could just back the hooks out.
Thank goodness he was not afraid to do it and I got the lure out once the barbs were cut. First aid kit everywhere I go, so cleaned it out, and went back out fishing...sure got sore for a couple of days...[:D]

...Ya'll had any similar "got hooked" stories, and how did you get "un-hooked", could be a method worth sharing...[;)]

    I feel your pain [xx(]

Reminds me - There is a very funny scene in a movie called "Funny Farm" with Chevy Chase. Five guys in a boat, one gets hooked in the cheek...Hilarious [:D]

I got a Hula-Popper in the ear once. My uncle next to me thought it was a snag and then he REALLY set the hook. Luckily only one barb grabbed from the treble. Mom was able to work it out while I screamed in fear and pain...[:D]

Never! ... my luck is still holding.
Seen few bad ones, though. Saw one guy
taken off a 'cattle boat' once directly
into an ambulance with a hook in the eye.

...cattle boats are only good for one thing, and it's not fishing...getting sun on the top deck, away from the numbn^%s "trying" to fish...[:D]

The first time I took my daughter out on one of the Canadian lakes she nailed me. She must have been about 6 or 7, so I was sitting behind her to give a little bit of "Dad" advice and help. She followed the instructions about a strong backstroke on the cast to preload the rod and, on the forward motion, drove one of the hooks of a Rapala into my back. It wouldn't have been so bad if she hadn't kept tugging to try to get it loose. Sure glad my wife was there to help get it out. Learned a lesson about where to sit with kids on that one.[:D]

If you take a piece of heavy fishing line 10-20 # and loop it around the curve in the hook, and then push down really hard on the top side of the hook, and give the line a quick, hard pull it will pop right out.
It sure beats running it all the way through so it can be cut off.
