Any fish ever just jump in the boat?

Back in the early 80's I was out fishing in Beaufort inlet (NC)for spanish mackarel. If any of you have ever fished for these, it can get pretty exciting when the bite is on. Fish jumping everywhere you can see, birds working, hooking up on every cast. Well, we were trolling clark spoons around the inlet when this 28" fish airs it out right in front of the boat, bounces off my brother's head and lands in the bottom of the boat. Biggest spanish I ever boated, and never put a hook in him!
Any similar experiences, with fish, mermaids [:D], etc??

    ...[:D]

...one time, out of a gazillion times in fresh/salt water. I was ideling in the boat, waiting for the trailer to be backed in, a 1 1/2, to 2 lb. carp jumped, hit me in the arm and fell into the boat.

...I hear that an imported fish of some kind (carp family?)is over populating river(s) in NE(?) and causing a hazard to boaters. The said fish, jumps a lot, and grows up to several(?) pounds, and boaters running the river have got smacked pretty good by these stupid fish. [:0] At 15 mph+, I would not want anything to hit me in the face that may weigh several pounds!

We have them here in the Miss Delta in the Miss river. I think they are called silver carp. BIG fish. I have had 10 or so hit the boat and bounce out. I would guess that the fish I saw were are 20 lb range. Rumor has it they can just 15- 20 ft at 25-30 mph. OUCH.

You mean Asian Carp? They're all up and down the Mississippi River.

chunk, not the carp that have been here (US) forever. The fish I saw the story about, were just recently,(several years?) introduced in some way to the water ways. The story said the fish was a danger to boaters, because of their size, and propensity to jump. I believe the Asian carp are the "carp" that have always(?)been around and really don't pose a threat, where as these I mentioned, do.

...I'm not even sure the fish I'm talking about are in the carp family. I thought maybe someone else had seen the story, and could identify the type of fish, and the geographic area they lived in...[;)]

SO FAR THE STATE RECORD FOR THE BIGHEAD CARP IS OUT OF LAKE OF THE OZARKS 80 POUNDS. ARTICLE IN AUGUST 2005 MISSOURI GAME AND FISH. PAGE 12

RUNNING UP AND DOWN THE SAC OSAGE RIVER AROUND OSCEOLA MISSOURI USING A STRONG LIGHT TO SEE THE SHAD WILL JUMP INTO THE LIGHT IN SCHOOLS AND SOME OF THEM LAND IN BOAD. STRANGE BUT TRUE HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN SEVERAL TIMES. DONT KNOW WHAT CAUSES THEM TO JUMP UP INTO BEAM OF STRONG LIGHT. I USE A MILLION CANDLE POWER LIGHT.

Yeah, Asian carp. They are an invasive species, not native to the US. They are well known to jump out of the water and at oncoming boats, and can knock people in boats down.

goose,I once had a 2 lb largemouth charging a Rapala I was cranking in and when I pulled my lure out of the water the fish jumped for the plug and landed in my boat. That's not just another "fish" story,it really happened that way.I would have liked having that on video, lol.

deadeye,On Lake Guerro (Mexico), you get one fish (bass) up to the boat, and 4-6 other fish are trying to get the lure from him. Seen this a lot, but this happens with every fish on Guerro.
    ...not a problem, I love it...[:D]
