Strangest fish caught

I was fishing on the Columbia river one Sunday afternoon no getting much action. I decided to try a new location which was near some dead fall laying in the water. I was using a brown Rooster tail and casting towards the dead fall and working back. I got a real good strike and set the hook. It was areal good fighter and came up out of the water one time. The damn fish looked white from a distance of about 50 to 75 feet where he came up. I got him up on the shore and could not believe my eyes. It was a small large mouth bass with vary little color. It was damn near an albino. It had the normal color in it's eyes and some small area of black around it's dorsal fin. Try to give a reason for this strange coloring. No, i had not been drinking and I do not do drugs.

...if the water is really muddy, most of the time, the fish will be "pale". Is the river muddy, like can't see sqaut in the water?
...If so, may be the reason...don't ask me the "science" of it, I dunno why this is true, just "one of those things"!(to me) Clear water, healthy waters will have good colored fish...[;)]

A couple years ago while fishing in a small stocked lake Near Eureka, IL, I hooked into what I thought believed was a large bass.

The fight lasted several minutes and luckily my brother shined a flashlight on it before I reached for it. Turned out to be a Burbot which is one ugly fish with a mouth full of teeth.

Showed it to the guy that owned the lake and he was surprised. A Burbot is a fish commonly found in the Great Lakes. We took a couple pictures and released it. It was just over 27 inches long and was approx. 8 pounds.

WELL FOR ME THE STRANGEST FISH I HAVE EVER CAUGHT WAS A SPOON BILL HERE IN MISSOURI. GET REALLY LARGE. DONT TAKE BAIT. WE SNAG THEM WITH VERY LARGE TREBLE HOOKS THAT HAVE REAL HEAVY LEAD MADE ONTO THE HOOK SHANK. I DONT DO IT ANYMORE ITS TO MUCH WORK. VERY HEAVY RODS. FISH LOOKS LIKE A SHARK EXCEPT IT HAS A REAL LONG BILL ON THE FRONT. HUGE MOUTH. THEY OPEN THEIR MOUTHS AND SWIM AND FILTER THE SMALL STUFF THRU THEIR GILLS FOR FOOD. GIANT FISH. LOTS OF THEM HERE IN OSAGE RIVER

I was fishing at the mouth of Willow creek where it dumps into the Columbia river and I caught One Shot's Fish!!! A large mouth bass about 10" long that was alomost white I don't remeber any color at all. Normal eyes though. I was pretty young then and it really freaked me out. Then I gaught an 18" squaw fish and I was done for that trip. Had nightmares for a week.

...A LOT of "strange" fish in saltwater. I think all have big sharp teeth and I never poke around in there, hook remover only.
Some of the gill edges too, are like razors, cut you in heart beat.

...Ugliest fish (I think) Ive caught, believe the locals (TXs. Gulf Coast) called a "oyster fish". Short, about 6-8", mottled brown w/pimply looking bumps all over, and two BIG upper teeth in the middle, that they use to open oysters, ugly, ugly fish...[:D]

My unusual fish was a 17" paku in Lake Wappapello (Southeast Missouri). It's a cousin of the pirhana, I'm told. Sure put up a great fight!! I'm waiting to get it back from the taxidermy shop now.
I had been catching some pretty nice black bass with a white spinner bait when the fellow hit. Made the local newspaper and have had a lot of questions about it. glad I have a couple of witnesses!!

Didn't catch one but saw one - a full grown whale shark - 40'/15 tons, so they tell
me! Off of Catalina Island about 15 years ago. We had just offloaded our dive gear in
Avalon about an hour earlier, or we would all been over the side in about five minutes
    with it!

Have never seen one since 1956 when I started going out with my dad fishing - nor
since after owning four of my own boats and spent countless hours/days keeping an
    eye peeled! [8D]

I cought a 35lb Spoonbill once on a troutline. His spoon was about 26in long. When you add the length of the spoon, you got one helluva long fishy.
