Best Gun to Shoot Fish

In the western part of VA there is a section of river where people have been shooting fish (It's legal) for centuries. This section of river is clear and shallow with a hard rock bottom. Except for being directly above the fish, it isn't where you see it. Typically a shooter hits the hard river bottom near or under the fish. And if lucky, the bullet concussion send the fish floating belly up. I think a large caliber, low velocity, soft lead bullet would be best. Opinions?

I'd say something big and slow with a very flat front end to cause as much impact as possible - 20 or 12 ga. slug. Unless you are taking about actually putting a hole in the fish. Then I'd go with a good handgun like a 357 (at least, according to mythbusters)
If you choose to use a 12 gauge, you will get a bath.
I actually use a bow, and a barbed arrow on fishy critters......
I think if I were using a gun/gun, vs a speargun, maybe .223 ?
A slow BIG chunk of lead, like a slug, or .30.30, would soak you, I think. A bow sounds the best, shooting into the water with a gun/gun has some real drawbacks...from getting soaked to way more serious...[;)]
