...for the type of fishing you do, of course.

...Since bass fishing is my deal,...bait casting.
...Ambassaduers for years, still have a few. Shimano,....NOW the one brand I have fallen in LOVE with is PINNACLE.

...A good one, as smooth, or so close you can't tell the difference, as ANY CALCUTTA, for real.
...Nice Pinnacle w/6-8 ball bearings (depending on model), can be had for $75-$150..NEW! Flea-bay has some great deals on 'em.

...Think their comming out w/a 10 BB, should be smooth as a babys butt, and cast a country mile!

...Never heard of them till a amb.3600c, drag crapped out, & before I got it fixed, bought a Pinnacle. The 3600 was one I worm w/so I replaced it with a pinnacle for $50 bucks I think, and I was amazed, never looked back...[:D]

...Need to send off the Amb., same problem, but I'll let the experts fix it this third time! ...

I got 2 of the Pinnacle's from accadmy sports 8BB 6.3 ratio for 49.99 as a promotion. great reels for the price. I have a few Shimano's and a BUNCH of Quatum PT's. I like the Quatums cause they are just good work-horse reels with out all the bells and wistles. I got on a good pro staff a few years back and got alot of bratom rods from a builder in Ohio. They are all built on the St.Croix Avid and Legend Elite blanks. Most of them have the SIC guides. I also found a good builder in TX (H&H custom rods) They build a great semi-custom rod.[:D]

I fish with worms and such so I use an old trio of Zebco "ONE CLASSIC FEATHER TOUCH" reels. "I like American made". I fish from the banks, piers, and places like that.
I don`t know how to fish with lures and I don`t have much chance at all to fish in a boat. I would like to learn how to fish with lures and what reel to get etc, Maybe I`ll learn how in our new Fishin Forum. I`d laugh my * off if I ever catch a fish using a lure without live bait. I think I`d have tears come to my eyes from laughin so hard. I never have been able to catch anything without worms or something. I`d probably smack the fish around a bit for being so dumb and biting on nothing. Mostly my best fishin is at Vermillion Ohio "Lake Erie" Catchin Perch.
Someday I`d like to catch one of those big stripers.
I might not be real fancy at fishin but I love goin fishin.
    Ok I`ll quit rambling now

I know they are anathema to you bass guys, but I stay with the spincast rods and reels for Walleye and Smallmouth. I've got 10 or 12 Shimano Spirex reels from 500's to 4000's. They're pretty smooth and seem to hold up well to Canadian fish which I think fight harder than our Indiana fish do.

I do have one older, but nearly unused Diawa Millionaire 3RM baitcasting reel, but I know so little about baitcasting reels that I really don't know what quality it is. It seems like a fair reel, but I've used it far too little to even begin to tell anything about it's durability. Anyone know anything about them?

...hey, I use an old ZEB 33 for 1/8oz. baits when I crappie fish, no better reel for the money. I have caught some 3-4lb. bass on it too, they are tough.

...I use ALL STAR rods, different lengths for wormin, running baits, topwaters. Like the 6 1/2ft. med. for topwater. Like the 6ft. med/heavy for plastic baits [worms craws, LIZARDS. LIZARDS, my favorite plastic bait, then a giant grub...2-2 1/2in. tail. I won't throw a plastic bait w/o a rattler in it, I'm a beliver, the size & number of fish a bait w/rattler, vs. bait w/o rattler hooked me!

Then TOPWATERS!!! MY FAVORITE, I think, hell, I like 'em all!

...nothing like a fish comming up and ripping into your topwater bait, the visual is awesome! I make most of my topwaters now, balsa wood, w/rattlers built into most of them. The materials I use (primers, paints), the balsa gets TOUGH, but still get chewed up after awhile...but so do the exspensive baits,...and I relly think balsa gives a better "action", IMO...

...When I catfish, I'll use chicken livers, yeccck, but the channel cat love em.

...Oh, and the crappie! Love to eat them more than catch em, tender mouth and not much fight...but I like anything that swims if it will tug back on my line...[:D]

...could not ever get the hang of a spinnig reel, a LOT of pros on the tours use 'em in different situations.

...dlrjj, the DM you have not used much is a real decent reel.
Should hold up under some pretty heavy fishing. I have an old diawa that is not near as well built as the one you have, and I treated it BAD, still works fine! Just have several much nicer...so it gets treated like a stepchild...[;)]

Bloviator, thanks for the reply about the DM reel, I was really curious. A lot of good companies have used their name to market some real junk over the years and I have not used that one enough to evaluate it. I should start using a baitcasting reel some, but I always go back to the spinning rods and reels - just comfortable with them I guess.[:)]

I picked up four of last year's model Shimano Citica for 35 bucks a pop at Wally World last month. I really got to test them yesterday during a tourney. Man those are some smooth casting reels. About the biggest thing I towed in on one was a 2.5 to 3 lbs sandie.
