A good evening at the river

Had a really crappy day at work, so I stopped off at the river near where I work on the way home. Caught 19 smallies in just over an hour. The smallest was 10" and a couple were over 15". It is a catch and release area for smallies so they all went back. I will try to remember the camera next trip.

Did have a litte run in with a Mexican Gentleman. He caught a nice 18" smallie and threw her in his bucket. I walked over and told him this was a catch and release area (which is clearly posted all over the place) and he needed to put it back. He finally did when I told him I would be calling the game warden if he did not.

...for sure! It's hard for me to tell the difference between a largemouth and smallie...not caught enough, to be real sure. Probably caught more than I know!...[:D] Pics will be nice...gotta love them memories.

...I have met a few weenies that won't/don't want to pay attention to the fish and game laws...I have no problem with telling them about it either. It would be nice to think my grand kids, and others, will be able to enjoy the fishing and hunting me, and you/others have, and do, you know?

...Sometimes I question the "smarts" of some of the laws, but heh, it's the law. Here, we have a lot of small deer, and starving deer...because (just part of the reason) TP&W (Texas Parks And Wildlife) won't let enough does be harvested...sometimes in "hard" years, it's real bad. seen TOO many, on the ground, unable to get up, deer...obviously starved. HUGE deer population, for food supply.

The bleeding hearts like PETA, and others, "don't get it"...they don't comphrehend proper "management" is a GOOD thing, for animal populations, and people, oh well, life goes on...[;)]

    ...GOOD CATCH!, lucky dog you...beats working...don't it??!!....[:D]

A couple things came into play for me concerning the smallie. First, they have been stocking smallmouth bass in hopes of building a decent fishery. Since they instituted the catch and release area, I have caught 15-20 smallies over 3lbs. in the last two years.

Prior to this it was rare to see one over 13". This 18" smallie was a female, full of eggs and within the next couple of weeks would be in spawn mode. Any resposible fisherman would have put her back even if it was legal to keep her.

I guess it angered me that the gentleman had no respect for the law, respect for the fishery he was using (abusing)and he caught a bigger fish than me.....[;)]
