Alvey reels

Anyone use 'em?

They're Australian and hold the world-record for longest casts. Thinking about getting one, but I dunno. Kind of an odd design. Looks like a fly reel, casts like a spinning reel, retrieves like a conventional reel. Like I said, odd.

...no. I think I will do a search though, as you know there are so many good products that are not "mainstream" until the secret gets out...[;)]

...hey bad, here is a link to a forum where the reel is being talked about, saltwater too, which seems your into, hope helps some.

...I think I saw the reel you described on a site. It casts and the line does come off like that of a spinning reel, then you turn the reel back into place to reel, then looks like a dang flyreel!

...it is kind odd design, but hey, the first guns, if want to call them :fire-poles that, were odd to...[:D]
when I have time, or if you read up some more on 'em, share the info, please. I think I saw somrething about the "longest cast"
    you mentioned...[;)]

I have been watching these for years. Does anyone own one or has anyone fished with one. I mainly catfish from docks and banks, though I fish for about everthing in East Texas at one time or another every year. I would really like to see if these reels, and oh, they make rods for them also, will throw a bait and retrieve a fish.

I'll stick with my 'ole Penn210 and my 9" Fugly-stikk.In Palm Beach, if u cast more than 100 yds. u get hung on the dang reef anyhow ..oh... and u do need at least double your rod length of "Shock leader".That way when you're whippin your lead/bait, you don't snapp your line
