Snagging for gar.....

Does anyone on here snag for gar or other types of fish? I did it a lot when I was younger. I plan on trying again as soon as I get my arm out of this sling.

Any recipies for spoon bill?

My son will get a kick out of seeing how to clean a gar, he wants one of the big ones mounted to put up over the fireplace. Some folks think they are a "junk" fish but I like them. A nice 6ft fish sure would look cool stuffed. [:D]
Just smile and say nothing, let them guess how much you know.

Recently say on ESPn2? fishing for Gar in the Arkansas River. All they used was a large jig-head and white strand for the body, but no hook! The strands looked like fray from an anchor line and cut to 8-12inch. The Gar have so many teeth they would not need need a hook. Watch your fingers and good luck getting them in the net!

I've caught a few that hit my lures, both salt and fresh water varieties, but never snagged any.

    A story about Garzilla:

Here's another interesting article about these heavily harvested fish:

There appears to be a great many recipes on gar if you google them up. From grilled, fried, and BBQ, to roasting. The only one I ever recall hearing the old folks talk about, however, was fishballs or fishpatties of most any concoction. It was my understanding that since gar are a very bony fish, fish-balls or fish-patties became a popular way to prepare them, at least in my neck of the woods. Here is a recipe that I just came across for Garfish Balls, cajun style:
