Fishing in the Fall?

Why is it that most people (myself included) think about fishing in the Spring or summer but not in the Fall?

My hunting doesn't start until December, I'm thinking I should do some fishing while I do some scouting ... that will confuse the deer!

    Works for me!

    I used to hunt on a place that had several stock ponds and on more than one occasion,Me and a huntin' buddy would get bored with huntin' and go fish for a spell.Of course,we'd have our rifles with us,just in case.

    On one of these "fishin' trips",we came back with 3 channel cat,2 wild pigs and a doe.

    All in about an hour and a half.

    Well, I caught two little Blue Gill, but the biggest one got away! Plenty of deer tracks by the water.

    Cause they never went in the fall, or they would keep at it--I don't start fishing at all until the first part of October---and I keep at it hard to the last part of Feburary[:p]---the BEST 5 months of the year[^]---too HOT in the summer[xx(], too many boats on the lake[:(!]--I usually don't see another boat on Greers Ferry Lake during these months[:)] , and the walleyes and bass are big, and easy, at this time of year[^]

    I think about fishing a lot in the fall....No deer season for me till mid November. Went fishing tonight and caught 7 smallies between 10-12" in about an hour.

    Thought I had a nice Walleye on but it turned out to be a 22" carp I snagged by the tail.

    My two biggest LM Bass were caught in October and November, 7lb 5 oz and 9 lb 1 oz respectively....

    One of the few good things about living in southern Kalifornia is the ability to fish year round. Trout season out here never ends. April through November it's spent up in the Sierras and as winter approaches and the waters in the southern part of the state cool off trout season begins all over again! If bass, stripper, and catfish are your preferred catches then there's tons to go around out here.

    Fall......speckled trout, BIG drum, BIG bluefish, BIG stripers....yeah, we live for fall here on the outer banks of NC!

    The cold weather gets me going for the stripers. A few dozen shad, a small treble hook thru the nose of the shad and light lines

    It's 'cause everyone's tired of having a line in the water and trying everything under the sun to get fish to bite....when all they have to do wait until the fish feel winter coming on and go fanatic about feeding!

    The best fishing I ever did was when the temperature started to drop in Nevada and the fish wouldn't/couldn't leave anything alone...

    I fish all year round; the salmon start to run in September and go through the opener of deer season. Then the steelhead run to eat the salmon eggs in December; BRRRR! Breaking ice out of the guides is not fun, but a necessary evil. Thank God for insulated waders! Trout opens April 1 and it's still cold then. I fish for cats, perch, walleyes, bass, and muskies when the weather warms up. I still have to master ice fishing; it's hard to troll when you have to cut the hole for the boat.

    22 & 1/4 inch smallmouth from Greers Ferry lake last Thursday[^] also about a dozen in the 2 to 4 lb. range, and a million smaller ones, wind was terrible, big white caps all day, and could not cover the structure well[:(!], but they will bite even better in December[:p]

    Hear ya hissinggoose, no stripers or Blues here but the trout school up and are easy to troll for in winter or just find a deep hole and your good to go.
    I'm with the rest that my other hobbies usu. get in the way.
    Guess, I'm not as geared cause the fishin tends to be slower, however the fish you can catch are usu. so much bigger in the winter months.
