Mariner 5 hp outboard

My old Johnson 6 hp fisherman quit on my skiff. Its so old my neighbor is offering me a 97 Merc/Mariner 5 hp for under $400. Looks pretty good anyone have any experience with these 2 stokes?

Never owned one but have heard good things about them. $400.00 seems a little high. I have seen newer 25 horse motors go for that price.

Yepper, a brand new briggs 5 hp is cheeper than that.

The kid bought it over installed it on the skiff put the adapter on my gas can and demoed it. Then gave me the old guy discount.
I am satisfied.

I had one from the 1980's and used it for 12 years with no problems. They were made by Yamaha for Mercury then. Not sure, but I think Mercury took over manufacture with Yamaha parts in the 90's. I think you did OK. Best of luck with it.

Thanks for that. Looking closely it is made in Japan so it may be a 97 Yamaha in disquise...
