Little Chief Smokers

My buddy Gary has his little chief smoker buried in the ground...
He says it keeps the smoke and heat in better.
Anyone else do this?

    I have heard of doing that, but never saw one or tried it.

    My next one will be a sealed electric with digital thermostat. The last one worked well, but was a pain to keep the temp constant with the propane burner.
