I am fishing for big Stripers this fall on the Outer Banks of N.C. under the Bonner Bridge that hasa strong current. I will probably need to use a #5 oz. egg sinker, and my Penn Peerless #9 reels are spooled with #50 Braided Spiderwire. What poundage should I put on the drag? #60 fish are not uncommon but I fear most Spinning reels would not have the gears to stand up to those fish. Any suggestions?

What size line using is more dependant on the rod and reel and how you handle the fish...

I prefer a lighter line so the fish are less likely to see it.
you could get by with 10lb test if you are not to jiggy.
