priceless fishing gear, Vs new fangled wonders

I can't believe how much a new fly rod costs and how little people will pay for a vintage Fenwick, Granger or Heddon. I recently bought a very rare Luckie with a reel for 5 bucks
I asked the clerk at wearhouse sports what was up with that and he said, status. I never thought to be a fishing pole snob...How is that even possible?
