Interview with a vet for school

sengaijasengaija Member Posts: 3 ✭✭
Hi. My name's Andreas and I'm from Sweden.
I'm doing a project on the Vietnam war for school and I thought that it would be interesting to have someone who has actually been there and experienced it with their own eyes answer a couple of questions. You can send your answers in a PM or post them in this thread, or you can just send them to my email, stevegaija@hotmail.com
Thank you.

1. Tell me a little bit about yourself and what you did in Vietnam.

2. Do you understand the people who was against the war?

3. Did you or do you feel any anger against the people of Vietnam?

4. How were you treated when you got home?

5. What was an average day like?

6. Do you regret anything you did while in Vietnam?

7. What were you thinking while you were over there?

8. Did you or do you feel any anger against the US government?

9. Did the war change you as a person?
If yes, how did it change you?

10. Do you see any similarities between the Vietnam war and what is going on in Iraq right now?

11. How was the mood amongst the soldiers serving in Vietnam?

Thank you in advance for answering these questions.
Have a nice day.

    1. Tell me a little bit about yourself and what you did in Vietnam.

I was on a Special Forces team in the Delts 67-68

    2. Do you understand the people who was against the war?

Did they understand what they were supposed to be against. I feel they were mislead by people who had a stake in us losing in Vietnam

    3. Did you or do you feel any anger against the people of Vietnam?

    No

    4. How were you treated when you got home?

I did not have any problems

    5. What was an average day like?
I was the communications man so I mostly stayed in camp but our engineers and medics usually were in the local villages trying to make life better for the Vietnamese. Usually every 2 or 3 weeks, I would go out on patrol for 3-4 days.

    6. Do you regret anything you did while in Vietnam?

    No

    7. What were you thinking while you were over there?

How screwed up the people were who were protesting the war. Because their way prevailed, millions of people are now living under a Communist dictatorship, when they could of had a Democracy. Thousands more died in the war than should have because the peace protestors were giving encouragement to the Communists and prolonging the war. Thousands died try to flee Vietnam or died in the Re education camps.

    8. Did you or do you feel any anger against the US government?

    No

    9. Did the war change you as a person?
If yes, how did it change you?

    No

    10. Do you see any similarities between the Vietnam war and what is going on in Iraq right now?

Yes it proves once again that our soldiers are much braver than our politicians

    11. How was the mood amongst the soldiers serving in Vietnam?

I was only with the Special Forces, their mood was always positive. What little contact I had with other units, I did not see any of the problems that I have heard took place.

Thank you in advance for answering these questions.
    Have a nice day.
