Were the tunnels used by the Vietnamese anything as large as pictured in movies like We Were Soldiers? Details and stories appreciated.

There were some large dug out (almost caves) tunnels and rooms, but most I saw were small. Some were very small.

dheffley: Did you notice any supports or beams in place in the larger tunnels?

No, but I didn't see the whole complex. It actually looked like a hand modified cavern to me, and I was only seeing it in low light.

To all the tunnel rats- you have all my admiration for a job well done. I, being 6' 3", I didn't fit in the tunnels. Job well done!

    Thank you!

I caught part of a show on the History channel called "Underground" or something like that. They went to Vietnam and took video of some tunnels, caves and bunkers used in the war. I'd hate to crawl into one of those tunnels armed with only a flashlight and a .45. Of course, with my body shape, getting into anything with an opening that small is out of the question and has been for years. Gentlemen, you served your country bravely and well.
