Maybe they should reinstate a firing squad just for him. won't be too long before a lot of cowards will refuse for the same reasons.

thing is for an officer to do that. They gotta make an example of hiim or there will be others that try the same poop. I hate to say it but there are a lot of cowards out there.

people don't understand commitment anymore. (not that I am even that old) This LT signed the line, just like the rest of us. Sounds like he wants the benefits without the hazards. ya gotta take both. As a LT he is probably a platoon leader, whats the moral of his platoon gonna be like? He ain't some private who just has to look out for himself, he's an officer for crying out loud! Aren't they supposed to be a step above us common soldiers? (sarcasm intended)

In some respects it is too bad that history has not communicated the loss of more than just a few junior officers during Viet Nam. A large number of these were dispatched by there own troops for actions that were definately not in the best interests of the troops. Actions that would be considered by most of us as insane, ie. demanding to be saluted in the course of battle, assuring that Charlie knew who was in charge, being one that immediately comes to mind. For any Officer to conduct him or her self in the manner discussed here, is a grevious
breech of honor as well as courage. The armed forces of this great country have always, with very rare exception, conducted themselves with great valor and honor, and unfortunately the actions of one person shed a very unwelcome light on so very very many. I can almost hear the media salivating over this one.
Shoot him, shoot him quick, before it spreads!

Unfortunately, this POS applied for conscientious objector status. Instead of waiting to be deployed and then deserting. Then he should be shot. Instead we should string him up by his balls. Or at least what used to be balls.
