""VOLUNTARY PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE CONVERSION PROGRAM""

You mean to tell me that this Tricare crap was optional all along and we could have gotten paid extra to find our own health insurance company??

Can anyone find the regs quoted on that link to find what this is about??

Boy are you in for a frekin shock.

Tricare Contractors have gotten Tricare Prime regions about eliminated starting about 24 months ago. Let's say you are from Pennsyltucky where there are no military bases. Any Doctor or clinic that accepts Medicare used to be a Tricare Primary care provider as well but not any longer.

All you will get now is Tricare Standard and you WILL be paying monthly premiums soon to have that privelege. Plus on top of that monthly permium you will pay the first $400 or so and then will pay 50% of all costs up to $3000 and if you didn't see a Tricare networked provider will pay an additional 15%.

$400x12= $4800 JUST to enroll in Tricare Standard
$400....you must pay the first $400 of all medical costs on top of your enrollment fees.
$3000....you will pay 50% of all medical costs up to $3000 and your monthly enrollment fee doesn't count as medical costs.

This is where Tricare is going or will be when you drop your uniform.

Retiree's are SPACE AVAILABLE into military clinics and the majority are now saying they have no space available due to 'deployments' and 'cuts'. When the 8,000 Marines get moved from Japan to Guam the Retiree's in Guam are rumored to be ruled no longer eligible to be seen in the Naval Hospital. The Air Force hospital already has a policy of NO military retiree's.

    Best of luck.

Let us know how it works out for you.

No shock here. I have over 20 years to prepare for this. At this time, I do not have the same problem you are experiencing/sharing ... but will keep it in mind.

    Thanks again for sharing.
