I wasn't stateside at the time...was sitting in a bunker in full MOP when the air raid sirens came on and Giant Voice put us in full MOP in the bunkers.
I overheard some British pilots talking about it saying Iraq's military was on the Saudi border with chemical weapons and contaminated themselves in an accident.
Never did hear an official reason to put the entire middle east into Threatcon Delta prior to 9-11. Anyone?
