If you have received "100% total and permanent service connected disability" status, then you are eligible for CHAMP-VA medical coverage for your spouse and/or dependants. This benefit includes medication, and can be a life changing blessing in your life. If you have been total and permanent for some time, and didn't know about this benefit, you can collect back expenses from your effective date when you enroll if you have documentation. If you are seeking total and permanent status, you should keep the records of you expenses, because when the status is awarded, it is usually done in a pro-rated manner, so you could collect past expenses. If you received information from DVA that said, for instance, that your spouse was not eligible because they were on Medicare, this was not true. You need to check with your service organization no matter what reason you may have been given in the past for denial of this benefit. You can call 1-800-733-8387 to enroll or get infoemation.
