10th Mountain deploies alot. The 82nd, which I spent time in has other responsabilities and specialties. That is why they have a batalion on 2 hour recall at all times, and one brigade on recall.I spent 10 years in the Army, as a 11B I belive that every job in the military is important or else it would not exist. Someone has to suport the fighters. After all how far can a grunt get with no ammo, food, or water. How would a grunt feel about there job with no medavac, arty, or avation aupport.
To give my opinion of the original question.
1 Yes you can get airborne school in your contract. I know because I did.
2 Airborne units are teer 1, and have priority for soldiers, With few exceptions.
3 If he wants to work on helocopters and be the best at it he should look at SOAR (special operations aviation regiment). Think Blackhawk Down. The book and Movie arfe more about SOAR than the Rangers. Seperate units.
