Interesting black swan is forming just like it did for The Hopi Indians at Four Corners however it will be much worst this time around thanks to technology and over population! Stupid government and it's policies are going to kill the country as we know it!

The amount lost was nearly double the volume of the Colorado River's Lake Mead, the largest man-made reservoir in the US, according to a study by scientists using data from Nasa satellites that can measure changes in water levels.

"This is a lot of water to lose. We thought that the picture could be pretty bad, but this was shocking," said the study's lead author, Stephanie Castle, a water resources specialist at the University of California, Irvine.

More than 75 per cent of the loss was due to the rapid depletion of groundwater from underground aquifers that many farmers depend on for irrigation, especially during droughts like the one that has afflicted parts of the south west for the last 14 years.

How much water does Las Vegas "waste" yearly? All the cities in the southwest US are a constant drain on the aquifer(s).

California is the worst in the West and it will be and is causing severe inflation pressures on our dollar funny money!

Our governments do not want to admit that growth story is over and overpopulation and over use of natural resources with burning of fossil fuels is/has cause an extinction event soon in the future, mankind is going to perish right along with other animals !

In a new review of scientific literature and analysis of data published in Science, an international team of scientists cautions that the loss and decline of animals is contributing to what appears to be the early days of the planet's sixth mass biological extinction event.

Since 1500, more than 320 terrestrial vertebrates have become extinct. Populations of the remaining species show a 25 percent average decline in abundance. The situation is similarly dire for invertebrate animal life.

    ...

Across vertebrates, 16 to 33 percent of all species are estimated to be globally threatened or endangered. Large animals -- described as megafauna and including elephants, rhinoceroses, polar bears and countless other species worldwide -- face the highest rate of decline, a trend that matches previous extinction events.

Pretty sure both parts of the statement is true. However, it shouldn't make a difference. If Western states run out don't come crying trying to get water from the Great Lakes or any of the other major US rivers (MO, MS, etc.). Ruin your aquifer, don't expect others to ruin their aquifer for you.
