Here is what he had to say to the question,

France has strict gun laws. Why didn't that save Charlie Hebdo victims?

S?bastien Forcioli I am French. To legally buy a gun, you would have to wait between 6 and 8 month aftee your registration at the FFT (French shooting association). Then, you need proof that you bought a safe for the gun, and every year you must reniew your shooting licence (or else the gun is confiscated within 1 month or so). Then, every three years you have to update your paperwork for each gun that you possess (7 "percussion" guns max per person, which basically means every gun except double barrel shotguns).

Automatic weapons are illegal to buy. However, any little dealer/ small time gangster can buy an eastern or chinese AK for ~150_ in our big Parisian suburbs. Our criminals are almost military equiped and religious extremists are more and more efficient and equiped, due to their frequent trips to Yemen and since last year, Syria.

It was just a little perspective from a French point of view. Never stop fighting for your rights to protect yourselves. Or else you'll end up just like France.
