Government Employees

The Constitution states, "Section. 6. The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States."

The Supreme Court has ruled that this means Senators and Representatives are employees of the Federal Government, not their home states.

This is why neither Senators nor Representatives can be recalled. It is also why they don't give a damn about the best interests of their constituents: they don't have to care; they work for the Federal Government, not their home states.

Imagine hiring a lawyer to represent you in court and discovering that the court is paying him, that you cannot fire him, and that he determines his own salary and benefits. That's the case with Congress today.

An amendment to the Constitution is needed that reads, "The Senators and Representatives shall be employees of their respective States, and shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by law of the legislatures and paid out of the treasuries of their respective states.

This compensation shall include all salaries, expenses, allowances, and other emoluments, whatsoever."

I Like It. There needs to be a way to hold these people accountable, as there is no affective way to do that presently.

Now - Reality. It would take Congress to make that change. Do you really think those folks would support such a change? Not in our wildest dreams.

Remember - These are the same people who reinstated the 'legality' of them participating in insider trading in the dark of night, 3 weeks after publicly denouncing it.

A convention of the states can also submit amendments for ratification. Thus Congress can be completely circumvented.
