Warning RE: Pranks And Dirty Tricks

I saw something on the forums a while back about pranks and what not and how to make trouble for someone you don't like. Defamatory information placed on free sites, false for sale/wanted ads on {elsewhere}, identifying the victim as some sort of criminal/nutcase, etc.

Keep in mind that once a message is sent, it can't be called back, sort of like a bullet. Messages sent over the Internet leave a trail that can be tracked. If the "prank" rises to the level of criminal behavior, prosecution for the behavior will likely take place at the Federal level. Defending a prosecution at this level can be time-consuming and expensive. A conviction can result in the abrogation of certain civil rights, including the right to keep and bear arms.

So, before you decide you are going to try to sit in the dark and prank someone, ask yourself: "If I do this, what is the WORST possible outcome?" And: "Can I live with that?"

Just something to think about.

Applies to a prank, OR to a deliberate backdoor attempt to defame or damage an individual, I suspect.......

Something that would bear thinking on, particularly by a certain member right here on GB.

Food for though and good advice, I think........[:)]
