Democrat Proposes Law Requiring Firearm Owners Have $1,000,000 Insurance Policies

Illinois - the land of Obama and the Blagojevich mafia - is serious about making the Second Amendment so expensive only the rich will be able to exercise it. Kenneth Dunkin, a former social worker and Democrat member of the Illinois House of Representatives, has introduced HB0687, entitled the "Firearm Owners ID-Insurance" bill. It is currently in the Rules Committee.

Dunkin's bill amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act, a previous bill aimed at chipping away at the Second Amendment. Dunkin's amendment states "that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person."

A million dollars!

Can you imagine the premium on such an insurance policy? It would be astronomical and out of the reach of most people in Illinois.

If the firearm owner cannot afford the insurance or decides that it is simply crazy and also unconstitutional and refuses to participate, "the Department of State Police shall revoke and seize a Firearm Owner's Identification Card," thus making the the firearm illegal and the owner a criminal.

If Dunkin's bill makes it out of committee and is passed by the Illinois General Assembly, a whole lot of people will have their firearms confiscated by the State Police.

A million dollar umbrella policy is not very expensive when it is an umbrella that covers homeowners and auto insurance. Statistically, a million dollar policy that covers willful or negligent misuse of a firearm would not be very expensive.

As with all firearm legislation, one must assume an impure motive and that this is not being proposed to provide for the victims of that misuse. This insurance would no-doubt be a government/industry hybrid, and consequently will cost much more than the market would dictate. The net effect would be that those that have the greatest need for self-defense firearms, those that live in high crime areas, would experience yet another infringement, and more and more people will be disarmed.

Common-sense legislation, just like the requirement to have insurance in place on your car. No right is 100%, right?

This is why is remains necessary to continually point to the 2nd, and to educate people as to what infringement actually means. This requirement is no more unreasonable than a requiring a card to purchase, a license to own, a waiting period, etc.

It is anti-Constitutional, just as is licensing and registration, and if we agree to one restriction, we agree to the premise that restriction is legal.

We are all familiar with the joke that starts out 'Would you sleep with me for $ 1,000,000.00' and ends with, 'Well we've already established what you are, we are now arguing price.'

All of us who have a CCL, who have filled out form 4473 are that whoare, and this type of legislation is simply lowering our price.

Illinois will simply revoke or deny you a FOID card without proof of insurance. Very easy to accomplish for the czars of Illinois.[xx(]

Here's the minimum required auto insurance for Illinois.

$20,000 - injury or death of one person in an accident
$40,000 - injury or death of more than one person in an accident
$15,000 - damage to property of another person

    Thanks, Hunter Mag.

The impure motive is thus proven. Persons killed by an automobile are worth a maximum of $ 40,000.00. Persons killed by a bullet are worth $ 1,000,000.00.

Obviously the intent is to disarm.

Glen Beck has an expert on his show right now. He said there is not one insurance company in the country that covers gun liability insurance.
