Rumors are circulating around The City that San Francisco Police Chief Heather Fong's next job could be director of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The ATF is a law enforcement agency within the U.S. Department of Justice focused on preventing terrorism, reducing violent crime and enforcing firearms regulations.
Fong announced during a Dec. 20 radio address that she is retiring from the San Francisco Police Department five years after Mayor Gavin Newsom appointed her as police chief. She has committed to staying on until a replacement is found for her.
