Subject: Senate Bill SB-2099

Most folks probably don't know anything about this

It's time to write or better yet, call your senators

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal
tax form all guns that you have or own. It may require fingerprints
and a tax of $50 per gun.

This bill was introduced on Feb.. 24. This bill will become public
knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law. This is an amendment to
the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance
Committee can pass this without the Senate voting on it at all.

The full text of the proposed amendment is on the U.S.
Senate homepage, http://www.senate.gov/ You can find the bill by doing
a search by the bill number, SB-2099.

You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of
this e-mail to every gun owner you know to help STOP this bill!!

    idahogunbroker, thanks for trying.
Did you click on the link you provided, and do a search for this bill?

    SB-2099" e-mail IS A HOAX.

You probably received an e-mail about this bill in the U.S. Senate known as "SB-2099".

There are a great number of indicators in this e-mail that prove the sender is not to be trusted.

"This bill will become public knowledge 30 days after it is voted into law." Baloney. I don't trust the scumbags in Washington, D.C. either. But a "bill" can't become law without "public knowledge" or without a vote.

If this were possible, is there any doubt the anti-gun liberals would use it to immediately enact their gun control fantasies? The only thing stopping them is... well, frankly, you, and your outrage.

Another thing that tells you this isn't accurate is that the US Senate doesn't legislation as "SB 2099" or "SB-2099". It would be "S. 2099".

The third glaring indication that it isn't real is that when you do a search of "S. 2099" or even "2099" from the US Senate website, it returns nothing.

    http://www.nationalgunrights.org/billwatch.shtml

As you can see, no "2099" exists in the current Congress.

The one thing they did get right is that 2099 was, at one time, a bill in the U.S. Senate... in 2000. And yes, it was a gun control disaster. It didn't get anywhere, but 9 years later its not still alive.

However, this illustrates why pro gun groups exist:
There's a lot of misinformation out there -- especially on the internet -- and gun owners need someone they can trust to take the time to decipher it. They want to know what's happening without being scammed, so they become members of groups they trust.

There are plenty of real threats to our right to keep and bear arms. Let's put our energy into fighting them, not ghosts.

Pickenup, he's a starting member so you gotta go a little easier on his seemingly unintended mistake (at least I would). I think you were a little harsh. Maybe with time and some experience over in the political arena, he might toughen up and be a cool GBF'r-one never knows!

True or not, I simply would not comply.

What I have or do not have is none of their damn business.

They can go piss up a rope.

    Go easy....
    I did.

    A little harsh....
    I don't think so.

I did thank him for trying, and I AM SINCERE about that.
Most people do not bother posting anything at all.
At least when he saw a threat, he tried passing it along.

My point being, if you are going to post something like this, which also includes a link to check it out.
    Maybe you should......check it out......first.

I think he has thick enough skin, to accept a correction, without being ran off.
    We shall see.

This is an excellent description of the process a bill must undergo before it may become law.
