Interesting Sign at Local Kalifornia Gun Store

Noticed a sign on the front door a while back at a local gun store. Sign read "All guns MUST be unloaded prior to entry into this store." I located store manager and asked him if he allowed dogs in the store. He said no. I told him he was in violation of ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). Seeing eye dogs must be allowed access according to federal law. I asked him if his store policy supercedided all state and federal laws. He admitted they could not. I asked him if his sign on the front door superecedided state and federal laws on CCW. He admitted it did not.One week later I returned and the sign on the front door read "All guns must be unloaded prior to entry into store EXCEPT CCW and law enforcement.Your comments?[This message has been edited by Alpine (edited 03-19-2002).]

My local gun shop has the same sign. All weapons must be unloaded INCLUDING LAW ENFORCEMENT. do they do it...no. do people with CCW unload before they walk in, nope. I guess its for those people who have a gun they keep at home and never use or need to take it for whatever reason, just so they don't walk in pointing it at anyone with a round in the chamber. I guess its for the people who really know nothing about handling guns, who knows.

A CYA sign cannot violate state and federal law.Might I suggest if you see a sign like this at your local gun shop, that you gently remind them for even to CYA, or for insurance reasons they might make their sign legally correct.

Might want to go back and apologize.I looked into this. A private citizen is under no obligation to allow another private citizen to bring weapons onto his property. Period. If he felt like it, he could have people arrested if they refused to leave. Of course, police are allowed to bring guns in, as long as they have jurisdiction there.

What do you do when the sing is on the doors of a shopping mall (public egress) and says no weapons allowed? and then can an off duty officer carry into the place?

Item one: A store (licensed to do business) operates under vastly differant rules of egress than private property.Item two: State law gives you the right to carry(if CCW)in these places. In Kalif. there are only a handfull of excluded places (State capitol building, certian court buildings, jails, federal courts, miltary bases).Law enforment has a right to carry, and in some cases their Policy and Procedure requires them to be armed. Again state law supersedes any sign they wish to hang on a door.

Zach21035: What section would the person be under arrest for? I have been retired for over 10 years so they might have slipped something in. But in Kalif. there is nothing.

I guess that's why it is called a Carry CONCEALED Weapon permit.
