CA CCW Permit

kaliforniankalifornian Member Posts: 475 ✭✭✭
My wife and I are thinking of trying for our Conceal & Carry Weapons permit but as my name implies, we live in the Socialist Republic of California. I found a class taught by law enforcement officers for $180 that meets the 16 hours of training required for the permit. We have completely clean backgrounds, are skilled with our guns and could produce references from respectable but non-law enforcement, non-judicial and non-political people.

Do we realistically have a chance at getting a permit for either Orange County or the entire state or will we just be wasting our time and $360 dollars?

I hope to get certified on 3 guns (different sizes depending on weather/clothing and my sense of need) and my wife just wants it for a .38 special. Should we go for it?

In the Sozialist Republik of Kalifornia, CCW's are NOT shall issue permits. If you can get yourself "hooked up" by some celebrity, LEO or politician snake in the grass, you could get one.

I wonder if money spent to attempt and fail to get a CCW because you are not an elitist is tax deductible??? Hmmm???

LOL, that would be a pretty funny tax deduction to use. Maybe I'll have to wait for Arnold Swarzenhager (sp?) to be elected govenor next time around. He's a hardcore ultra conservative in favor of guns.

Seriously though, I'm hoping to use a work contact at CHP for a reference if I get to know him better. I hope that will grease the wheels.

Since nobody is responding, I will add my ignorant 2c. I read somewhere that Orange County is a lot easier than LA County. LA is almost impossible if you aren't "somebody". I used to live in LA county, but I never tried to get a pistol permit. If you know a LEO in Kalifornia, he would be the one to ask.

I now live in upstate NY. The New York State pistol laws and practices are interesting. If you get a permit in any county, it is good all over the state except NYC, where getting a permit is about as tough as LA County. But our permits for the average citizen allow only hunting/target, not general concealed carry. To get the permit in the first place, or to get the restriction dropped, you have to talk to a county judge. He can deny or grant your request pretty much as he sees fit. When I got my permit, he made me promise that I would keep my pistol(s) in a gun safe, which I do.

Of course, both where you live and I live, the average gang member can get a pistol illegally in a few hours if he has the cash.

I can honestly see NYC becoming as bad a DC to the tenth power, myself. I didn't know Schwarzenegger was a big gun advocator. I mean, just because he's an action film star, I figured that, like Stallone, he would be an anti-gunner, but hey, that's refreshing to know.

    Thanks, GB.

Regarding Arnold: I read or heard somewhere that he is so conservative that he won't let his daughter wear pants because they are inappropriate young female attire (maybe something to do with is Austrian origins or wherever he is from?). He has posed for and been interviewed by Cigar magazines, seems tobacco and gun friendly in interviews, etc. I think he has even helped raise some money for republicans a few years back. I found all of this quite surprising as he is married to a Kennedy and action stars like Sly and Robert De Niro often go anti-2nd ammendment.

    That's interesting....

I was about to say that he married a Kennedy, and that in itself was, what I thought to be a dead give-away. Glad to see the Terminator isn't the typical people from Hollywood.
