2nd Amendment

Mr KeyMr Key Member Posts: 12 ✭✭
I grew up in a VERY liberal, anti gun household and took that into my life and accept that as correct. But since the news surrounding people in DC wanting to carry weapons for personal protection, I've given the whole thing a fresh look. So I started at the source. the 2nd amendment, while I think it's actually saying 2 distinct things, I do believe that it does give every citizen in the US the right to keep and bare arms.

I look forward to all conversations and I can promise I will put my 2 cents in when I can and will always be respectful.

Regards,
M

Why does "the right to bear arms" apply only to rifles and handguns? What about mortars, rockets and howitzers? What about grenades and other explosives? Don't we all need these to protect us from criminals and the government? Are these weapons not arms?

All that I know is that I have a large TATTOO of the whole second ammendment on the back of my leg that will be there until the day I die. Anyone can read it and often they stop me and do. I am just doing my part to remind everyone of our rights. If it is in their face they will know that we are out there in support of our rights in which I am will to die to keep. As long as they take my leg to the taxidemist for future referance. Thank you!!!

You are right to question this. The truth is that in most states you can get such items registered to you. The only things that you can't get registered are new machine guns (you can still transfer ones that were registered before May 19, 1986). And of course you can't get anything like missiles or nukes.
I believe that anything (including machine guns, rocket launchers, short barreled weapons, and silencers, and gadget firearms, like pen guns) that could potentially serve a defensive purpose should be 100% legal. Stuff like nukes serve no defensive purpose, and so they should be outlawed. Basically, if it a firearm or a firearm accessory, it should be 100% legal.

And to answer your question: The reason such items are illegal is the fact that most politicans are afraid of these items and don't trust anyone who thinks they need such an item for defense. They are scared because they believe they'd commit some terrible crimes if they were in possession of such items, and can't even begin to comprehend the fact that some people might have a legitimate purpose to own these kinds of weapons.

dsmith: That's half of the story. Here's the other half.

"Tyranny thrives in a country where its government need not fear the wrath of an armed citizenry."

Be aware that in this world, we have politicians that want to induce a power play into communism, and are CONVINCED that the only reason it has failed in all of the other countries that have used it as government is because the right people weren't in control of it. Should this happen, the same scourge that made and unmade the USSR will be upon us.

    Death to Tyrants!!!

Those who would offer any interpretation that would relegate Amendment II to "relic" status of a bygone era are blatantly stating that the remainder of the Bill of Rights isn't worth a damn, either.

OK, I'm going to be very frank. Watch out for this Mr. Key. It appears to me he has an agenda. All his posts only seem to encourage us reasonable and responsible gun owners to heartly agree than the 2nd amendment give us the right to possess mortars and other large, military destructive devices. I think he will use our comments against us.

When guns were invented everything changed. For the first time in the history of the world a frail woman had a chance to sucessfully defend herself and home. My dream is that one of the anti-gun nuts will need a gun for defense and be unable to have one because of their own actions.

TR: In the words of Sherlock Holmes: "Watson, I believe something is amiss"?

Another of those "Either-Or", Mr. Key: Elaborate, my good man![8D]
