I decided i want a gun in my house to protect my wife and kids. so living in massachusetts i went to the police station to get an application. I filled out the application and wrote a letter to cheif explaining why i want it. I figured there would be no problem seeing i have no felonys or never been arrested.
Heres the problem, there's a ? on the application asking if i've ever been in a drug or alchahol rehab. I was on pain killers for a few years for two ruptured discs. when i decided to get off them i got medical help. so i put all this on the application.
Now when i get to police station there's a sign on the wall stating you cant get a license if you've been in any type od rehab. so i ask the sgt (before turning in the application) if this is true considering my situation. volentary and all (prescribed medications)!! Turns out i'm not eligable untill 5 years after my stay and i have to have a letter from a Dr oking it after the 5 years.
This is B.S. has anyone else run into this? Would they have found this out in the background check? Is there any way i can legally own any type of gun? I was applying for a class A. I never gave him the application either.
Any help from someone who knows the laws would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
Thankyou

American's Right to bear arm's is the only reason we're here today.
When guns were invented everything changed. For the first time in the history of the world a frail woman had a chance to sucessfully defend herself and home. My dream is that one of the anti-gun nuts will need a gun for defense and be unable to have one because of their own actions.
Does anyone know if this is a standard law for most states? And would they have found this in the background check? This stuff suposed to be confidential.
Thanks
You were on medication for a back injury, you couldn't get off the pain killer's and needed medical help?
How did you get pain killers without a doctors prescription?
If you did have a prescription the doctor should of weened you off of them over time.
If you had to go thru voluntary drug rehab for the problem there should be no reason to prohibit you from purchasing a firearm in a free state.
I'd move.

A short time ago I would have said "no", that this would not have shown up in a background check, but now I believe there is legislation which is either about to take effect or has taken effect, when requires the submission of medical data and etc... to federal databases.

To think, I should let some hoplophobes in office decide for me what I can and cannot do in defense of myself and my family. They can squander their own birth rights all they want, but mess with mine, and the S will HTF.

Those who would offer any interpretation that would relegate Amendment II to "relic" status of a bygone era are blatantly stating that the remainder of the Bill of Rights isn't worth a damn, either.
