little help for a new guy trying to get a license

mkchllmkchll Member Posts: 4 ✭✭
I decided i want a gun in my house to protect my wife and kids. so living in massachusetts i went to the police station to get an application. I filled out the application and wrote a letter to cheif explaining why i want it. I figured there would be no problem seeing i have no felonys or never been arrested.

Heres the problem, there's a ? on the application asking if i've ever been in a drug or alchahol rehab. I was on pain killers for a few years for two ruptured discs. when i decided to get off them i got medical help. so i put all this on the application.

Now when i get to police station there's a sign on the wall stating you cant get a license if you've been in any type od rehab. so i ask the sgt (before turning in the application) if this is true considering my situation. volentary and all (prescribed medications)!! Turns out i'm not eligable untill 5 years after my stay and i have to have a letter from a Dr oking it after the 5 years.

This is B.S. has anyone else run into this? Would they have found this out in the background check? Is there any way i can legally own any type of gun? I was applying for a class A. I never gave him the application either.

Any help from someone who knows the laws would be greatly appreciated!!!!!

Thankyou

Well, I doubt if the people in your socialist republic will let you get a centerfire, however I do believe you could get a flintlock rifle or a flintlock handgun (there are some very nice .44 caliber black powder revolvers out there). If they don't fire fixed cartriges, there is very little laws concerning them. For example, here in Pennsylvania, you don't even have to be 18 to buy a black powder handgun. Take this up with your police chief. And hope this type of gun will be enough protection for you until your five year waiting period will be up.

Also 1 question. Is there any way to license a Class III weapon in Massachuttes(sp?)? I'd like to own a fully automatic gun someday, preferably with a grenade launcher on it, however the best I can federally do is get a full auto registered before May 19, 1986. These cost many thousands of dollars because you have to get a pre-ban. You can get grenade launchers made at any date.

I think you will have to move to a free state....Really.

sounds like a bad situation. Maybe have your wife buy a gun for home defense and then it would be there if you needed it.

When guns were invented everything changed. For the first time in the history of the world a frail woman had a chance to sucessfully defend herself and home. My dream is that one of the anti-gun nuts will need a gun for defense and be unable to have one because of their own actions.

Thanks Fox...That's a good idea. It's just won't be the same though. I really had my hopes up. I already had my gun picked out and everything.

Does anyone know if this is a standard law for most states? And would they have found this in the background check? This stuff suposed to be confidential.

    Thanks

No, your in a Socialist State like California.

You were on medication for a back injury, you couldn't get off the pain killer's and needed medical help?

How did you get pain killers without a doctors prescription?

If you did have a prescription the doctor should of weened you off of them over time.

If you had to go thru voluntary drug rehab for the problem there should be no reason to prohibit you from purchasing a firearm in a free state.

    I'd move.

A short time ago I would have said "no", that this would not have shown up in a background check, but now I believe there is legislation which is either about to take effect or has taken effect, when requires the submission of medical data and etc... to federal databases.

I think your best bet is to move from the socialist state of Mass.

mkchll I would call the AG and see what they say. Based on my experience it is easier to get an FFL then a state liense. But you still need a state permit to carry.

    Thanks

Last time I advised someone living in the People's Republik of Taxachusetts to leave, they insisted in not doing so. That was my advice then, and that's my advice now.

To think, I should let some hoplophobes in office decide for me what I can and cannot do in defense of myself and my family. They can squander their own birth rights all they want, but mess with mine, and the S will HTF.

    Death to Tyrants!!! Lev 26:14-39

Those who would offer any interpretation that would relegate Amendment II to "relic" status of a bygone era are blatantly stating that the remainder of the Bill of Rights isn't worth a damn, either.
