URGENT! WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!
SUPPORT - House Bill 1482 - Smokeless Powder Bill was passed by indefinitely by the Senate Courts of Justice Committee on Wednesday March 3rd, 2004. We have one last chance to revive this bill.
If you are a Virginia resident please CALL or E-MAIL Senator FRED QUAYLE at (804) 698 - 7513 or e-mail: district13@sov.state.va.us and Senator LOUISE LUCAS at (804) 698 - 7518 or e-mail: district18@sov.state.va.us and ask them for their immediate support of House Bill 1482.
This is very much needed legislation; there will be no or very little smokeless powder and primers available at Virginia guns shows otherwise. THIS EFFECTS EVERY RETAIL MERCHANT STATEWIDE. Viginia state law defines smokeless powder and primers as explosives. The new State Fire Code states that only 20 lbs of smokeless powder and 10,000 primers can be in any structure classified as a Group M occupancy (mercantile structure). Group M occupancy includes Wal-Marts down to gun stores statewide. It takes a minimum of 132 lbs
to display a normal variety of powder in a normal retail display.
The State Fire Code also says all receiver's (private individual's) names, addresses, signatures, amounts and kinds of explosives are to be recorded and shall be furnished to the fire official for inspection upon request.
You must respond immediately. E-mails can be made anytime, but phone calls will be answered by an answering machine on the weekend. If you get a machine, ask the Senator to Support 1482, leave your name, phone number, city and interest in smokeless powder - reloader, re-enactor, merchant, manufacturer, etc. They may believe only merchants care. Calls must be made before Monday, March 8th, 9:00am.
MONDAY, MARCH 8TH, IS THE LAST DAY HOUSE BILL 1482 CAN BE REVIVED.
