Backdoor Gun Control

In todays Baltimore sun is a letter written by the executive director of the Maryland consumer rights coalition inc.The title of the letter is "GUN INDUSTRY NEEDS SERIOUS REGULATION".
It is written to support The Firearms Safety and Consumer Protection Act that was introduced last year, that would give the Department of Justice authority to regulate guns as consumer products.
One of the statements in the letter says " this would mean that the design, manufacture and distrubition of firearms would be subject to federal oversight. She tries to make the point that since these type of regulations are used on other products, they should also be used on guns.
It just appears to be anothe way for the anti gun people to get their foot in the door, since they haven't been successful in keeping the AWB in place.
Maybe this is old info to you guys, but this is the first that I have heard about it.

I hope the GOA & NRA knows about this.

Don't matter how old the trick is, if they are trying it now, it's news again.

The second amendment is supposed to separate arms from other "consumer products". They try it all, outlaw ammunition, call it an "unsafe consumer product", tax, etc. The backdoor approach is actually more likely to succeed than the head-on approach.

Here's backdoor gun kontrol for you...

Sue the manufacturers of firearms. Eventually, they'll run out of money defending themselves.

Enter the Lawful Commerce in Arms Protection Act. This bill sought to eradicate these baseless lawsuits against the firearm industry.

Now, let's tack on a few Amendments. Assault Weapon Ban extension (expanded version), Ammo ban of all ceterfire rifle ammo, Gun show eradication bill, and force manufacturers to include locks or be liable.

Let's see what the trade-off is. Businesses can now make whatever firearms they choose. In exchange, the creation of rifles is now pointless (it is if they no longer have access to ammo, right?), and some rifles are banned in any way shape or form. Even if you could get ahold of a rifle, perhaps the only place one could buy ammo will be at a non-existent gun show.

How would this affect the Gun Manufacturers? They would go out of business one way or the other, just based on this. Perhaps the only manufaturers not severely affected by this crap would be manufacturers like Glock (who only makes pistols), or Mossberg (which predominately makes shotguns), and other manufacturers like them.

Until the next round of gun kontrol.

Those who would offer any interpretation that would relegate Amendment II to "relic" status of a bygone era are blatantly stating that the remainder of the Bill of Rights isn't worth a damn, either.

Someone needs to point out to the idiot that wrote the letter that the gun industry is alreadyregulated by the federal government!!!! Sheesh!! You have to have a license to manufacture firearms, detailed record keeping is involved. Sales from manufacturer to wholesalers (federally licensed wholesalers) are recorded, detailed records kept. Sales from wholesalers to retail operations are federally licensed, detailed records kept, and finally, the final sale is NICS checked. Taxes are paid at every level, and ammo includes an excise tax on top of sales tax. The government has their finger in the pie in every step of the process, and this idiot says "gun industry needs serious regulation."

Perhaps he should get his head out of his colonic canal and learn some facts. Oh...that's right, the media just repeats what he spouts without either of them knowing one damned thing about what they talk about!

    Sheesh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think they do know, but would rather someone else lie to the people, so KBS, ABK, KNN and NBK and stay out of hot water (yes, the 'K' means 'kommie'). Sometimes, they don't realize that people do not trust a news center if they are found to be purposefully be spreading a lie, but do it through other 'experts', hoping the people will just look at it as erroneous journalism and not propaganda.

This may be where the denial is.

But if not, you may be absolutely right, Salvage.
