VERMONT ACTS AGAINST NUISANCE LAWSUITS.If you don't like the sound of gunfire, don't move near a shooting range. That's what Vermont's legislature and governor are telling citizens via a new law meant to cut the growing number of nuisance lawsuits against ranges. The law specifies that people who live next to pre-existing shooting ranges and gun clubs cannot successfully sue over noise pollution complaints as long as those facilities are following all applicable state and local laws.

Gotta love the folks who made that rule. Gun ranges that were in existance prior to the houses being built should be protected. If you don't like the noise don't buy the house.

Wish we could have had this happen here in Tucson, when the Forest Service yanked the 99-year lease and shut down the Tucson Rod and Gun Club because of the same type of "nuisance" lawsuits. [:(!][V]

I miss that club...didn't go as often as I wanted to, but it felt good to know that it was there, y'know?

Big Al (that whole deal still smells, if you know what I mean...)

Edit: hyperlinks added to include a local columnist's views on the subject, as well as the USFS appeal decision and information.

There is a trap club in Reno that is experiencing tons of development around it. It is my understanding that all of the nearby homeowners had to sign a notification of the existance of the trap club as part of taking title to the new home.

Still, a motivated layer, negative media coverage, and a sympathetic judge can shut down just about anything.
