This is from the past...a little thing we used to read out loud....

A VISITOR FROM THE PAST
by Thelen Paulk

I had a dream the other night, I didn't understand.
A figure walking through the mist, with flintlock in his hand.
His clothes were torn and dirty, as he stood there by the bed,
He took off his three-cornered hat, and speaking low, he said:

"We fought a revolution, to secure our liberty.
We wrote the Constitution, as a shield from tyranny,
For future generations, this legacy we gave,
In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave."

"The freedom we secured for you, we hoped you'd always keep.
But tyrants labored endlessly, while your parents were asleep.
Your freedom gone, your courage lost, you're no more
than a slave,
In this, the land of the free and the home of the brave."

"You buy permits to travel, and permits to own a gun,
Permits to start a business, or to build a place for one.
On land that you believe you own, you pay a yearly rent,
Although you have no voice in choosing how the money's spent."

"Your children must attend a school that doesn't educate.
Your Christian values can't be taught, according to the state.
You read about the current news, in a regulated press.
You pay a tax you do not owe, to please the I.R.S."

"Your money is no longer made of silver or of gold.
You trade your wealth for paper, so your life can be controlled.
You pay for crimes that make our nation turn from God in shame,
You've taken Satan's number, as you've traded in your name."

"You've given government control to those who do you harm,
So they can padlock churches, and steal the family farm,
And keep the country deep in debt, put men of God in jail,
Harass your fellow countrymen, while corrupted courts prevail."

"Your public servants don't uphold the solemn oath they've sworn.
Your daughters visit doctors so their children won't be born.
Your leaders ship artillery and guns to foreign shores,
And send your sons to slaughter, fighting other people's wars."

"Can you regain freedom for which we fought and died?
Or don't you have the courage or the faith to stand with pride?
Are there no more values for which you'll fight to save?
Or do you wish your children to live in fear and be a slave?"

"Sons of the Republic, arise and take a stand!
Defend the Constitution, the Supreme Law of the Land!
Preserve our great republic and each God-given right,
And pray to God to keep the torch of freedom burning bright!"

As I awoke he vanished, in the mist from which he came.
His words were true, we are not free. We have ourselves to blame.
For even now as tyrants trample each God-given right,
We only watch and tremble, too afraid to stand and fight.

If he stood by your bedside, in a dream while you're asleep,
And wondered what remains of our rights he fought to keep,
What would be your answer, if he called out from the grave?
Is this still the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?

Still makes me sad, just as when I first read it.

    Excellent poem Highball.

Here is one I like, however I do carry a gun ! :

    Forester Defined

"The forester is an amateur woodsman with a college education.

There are two classes of foresters. One believes in keeping abreast of broad, dynamic movements of the present day that challenge the best efforts of the Nation's thinkers. The other class fights fires, builds truck trails, plants trees, handles timber sales, looks after millions of tourists and hunters, and wears old cloths.

Some foresters have offices, some live in cities, and some work in the woods. Lots of foresters spend practically their entire lives in God's great out-of-doors. They love to hunt and fish. They would too, if they only had the time.

It used to be said that a forester's best friends were his horse and his axe. Today a forester has little need for a horse and the safety officer is afraid he might cut himself with an axe. Years ago most every forester wore a big Stetson hat and carried a gun on his hip and a flask in his pocket. Nowadays big Stetson hats are worn only in the movies, and you hardly ever see a forester carry a gun.

An interesting fact about a forester's life is that he sees all kinds of people from hobos to millionaires. It is not uncommon for a forester to have the privilege of personally doing a millionaire a favor. However, there is no record of a millionaire ever doing a favor for a forester. But even if they don't make much money, its nice steady work and they have lots of fun.

Another satisfactory thing about a forester's career is that he is his own master, absolutely independent and answering to no one for his professional conduct. That is except to his various official superiors, his wife, ladies garden clubs, sportsman associations, nature lovers, newspaper editors, and local politicians.

Forestry is a very pleasant profession because it is so easy to get ahead. Many foresters graduate from college with only few debts and immediately acquire a job, and a wife. In about 10 year's time, in addition to the same job and the same wife, they have more debts and five kids.

That's why foresters are so happy. "

    Excellent post Highball.

Paulk captured the essence of our situation and asks THE pertinent questions:

"Can you regain freedom for which we fought and died?
Or don't you have the courage or the faith to stand with pride?
Are there no more values for which you'll fight to save?
Or do you wish your children to live in fear and be a slave?

    Thank you sir.

Reading a poem like that makes the fiery spirit of liberty burn hot in my soul. We must restore Liberty, at all costs.

Thanks, all...posted this over to general...got lots of reads, and no comments.
Good enough. I post stuff that will get reactions...either they hate me...or they learn to dislike those that force them to crawl on their bellies so they can pretend to be 'free men'...what a laugh.

I will take ONE of you'all..to a hundred of them, when the going gets tough....

    No.....sadly.....I fear it's not. [V]

Our fathers watched it, to their dismay.
As the rights they so cherished, were stolen away.
Permission's required, and get a permit.
Stealing one after another, they'll never quit.

They discussed it among them, with heavy heart.
Being unable to fix it, tears them apart.
What could they do, what could they say?
As they watched it happening, day after day.

To pass this along, to the children that follow.
Was the one thing they found, hardest to swallow.
To think that our children, will inherit this mess.
What they'll think of us, they feared to guess.

We'll tell our children, about days of old.
When men were brave, and men were bold.
Where freedom reigned, far and wide.
When there was not any, reason to hide.

A tear in the eye, of a decent man.
To change it, to fix it, to make a plan.
Knowing all the time, it wasn't to be.
With all the arguing, they couldn't agree.

The word freedom, has a meaning for some.
Knowing we've lost it, makes the mind.numb.
What are the chances, of getting it back?
Not good this day, as the courage we lack.

In their ivory towers, they look down with distaste.
On the peasants below, they think such waste.
They see us as sheeple, so easy to herd.
To give us credit, to them.is absurd.

Where there honor lies, concerning our right.
Can't be mistaken, by the bills that they write.
Each one designed, to confuse and deceive.
Stripping our freedom, with the web that they weave.

But just in case, they send out their spies,
To infiltrate, listen, even make up some lies.
To encourage rebellion, to see who will bite.
To coax them, entrap them, they think is alright.

If the masters overhear, any treasonous chatter.
You'd soon find yourself, needing to scatter.
It mattered not, the quest was for freedom.
You threatened their rule, you threatened their kingdom.

No seed will sprout, they make certain of that.
Courageous leaders will die, at the drop of a hat.
Suspicion, distrust, of your fellow man.
Keeps us from talking, or making a plan.

They tell us to vote, and they laugh, oh so hard.
Knowing in their hand, they hold every card.
Let the sheeple think, that they have a say.
As we already control them, day after day.

They give us a choice, come election day.
And hold in their laughter, not to give it away.
Letting us think, there'll be change on the morrow.
Knowing all along, there'll be nothing but sorrow.

It matters not, how your vote is cast.
They'll control the future, as they have the past.
To think candidates differ, is what they portray.
But there really the same, in most every way.

To divide is to conquer, as we all know.
They do what they do, and we'll go with the flow.
We continue to bicker, as to who is the best.
Knowing deep down, one's as bad as the rest.

Nothing you do, nothing you say.
Will have an effect, in any way.
The master's plan, is working so well.
Can we change it, only time will tell?

Have we lost what it is, that makes us men.
The major difference, between now and then.
To sacrifice all, for what's known is right.
Only to question, unwilling to fight.

There comes a time, when there's no recourse.
Step up to the plate, with no remorse.
Those not willing, should feel the shame.
We'll know where they stand, no matter their claim.

Men will fight, and men will die.
Women and children, surly will cry.
I'll not deceive you, I will not lie.
The cost of the battle, will be very high.

The question asked, is of major concern.
We have to ask, we have to learn.
What will you do, be on your knees?
Everyday asking - may I, can I please?

Or stand like a man, willing to die?
Kissing your loved ones, saying goodbye.
Willing to fight, for what you truly believe.
Opposing tyranny, and taking your leave.

Both poems are very worthy of praise and more worthy of being repeated on every forum on the net.

    Excellent post. Thank you sir.[;)]

I sadly have to agree that we are no longer the land of the free, or the home of the brave...Days gone by, except for a core few, among which I count you and Highball along with several others here on GB.
