The infamous Sheriff's Permit requirement for purchase/possession of handguns is history and will become so on 28 August 2007.

Certainly about time. Now, how about firearms suppressors next?

Dang! Are you sure about that? I live just next door in KS but I had not heard a word about anyone working on trying to get rid of that useless law/rule/requirment.

August 28th no more permit to aquire will be required to purchase a handgun. Walk in and fill out the paperwork just like a long gun.

Also our version of the castle law goe into effect, no more retreating from intruders or worrying about prosecution for protecting you home and family.

Of course, it won't be publicized, especially not by the manipulators of the citizenry. Some FFL holders know, I heard rumors 2 months ago, could not confirm on the web under MO laws, but several guys sent me sites confirming it. I'll try to find them and post later. If it's important enough to you and I forget, shake my cage in a day or 2!

Please be aware: that useless law/rule/requirement was very important to the "public servants" whose only goal is to protect US!

For other MO residents, it could be noted here that the permit law for handgun procurement is written such that sales/transfers between individuals not licensed is prohibited. I am not aware of whether that part of the permit law changes or remains. It would be good to post that, if you have news about it.

formerlywrong, thanks for posting all this. On 8-23-07 I read n the Kansas City "Red" Star newspaper about the new handgun purcase rule being eliminated. The way I read it, the nationd NICS check basically does the same thing as what the Sheriff's check did for years and therefore was just an unneeded duplication. The way I read it, nobody needs to any longer go to the Sheriff's office and beg for permission to purchase a handgun. If buying from a dealer, the NICS check is all you need. Apparently, buying citizen to citizen, no background check is needed.

How about this rolling back of violations of our 2A everybody? Is that not progress done in a political manner as opposed to a revolution? And the two organizations mentioned in regards to getting the job done was the MO affiliate (Missouri Sport Shooting Association) of the NRA.

No, wait! According to many blowhards here the NRA does nothing for our gun rights. Or at least nothing if those rights involve anything but hunting rifles. Nevermind. I must of have forgotten that fact.

My understanding, FWIW, of the history of Missouri's Permit Law was to control the ownership of handguns, thereby simply denying, say, blacks, from getting permits. Course, the power of control went to some sheriffs' heads, and one in southeastern MO has steadfastly refused to issue a permit to ANYONE. Quite a few suits pending there.
Long guns are readily bought & sold by residents, lots of them private transactions, with rifles being very popular in comparison to handguns, a disappointment to me, for sure, when I moved here (MO) 8 years ago from AZ.

I'm glad the NRA is making headway in your state, Fox.
